need new motor for my 1990 ZZR 1100 C1

Post by pinebox »

I had the old girl stolen and the scumbags have done some damage to the bottom end ( metal on metal noises...thats bad right!!) just putting it out there for anybody to point me in the direction of a second hand motor or a good contact? I gave the " do it yourself rebuild" option about a nano second of thought then had a bex and a laydown!! I'm in South Oz but if a good motor is out there I would certainly look at shipping it in. If I have to buy a wreck and do it that way then I would look at that option as well.I'm also looking for the repair manual for the bike as well. I already have the service manual supplement which came with the bike but just not the original base manual. Most people have said get rid of her and update but she is part of the family, I can't do it! Hope somebody can help me.

give these guys a ring mate 82832466 or 0415 464442, i forget the name of the buisness but i got my zzr exhaust from these guys and they did have a good runing engine too.

i think they wanted around the $1000 mark but you may be able to talk them down abit and it was a d model but i think they are a straight swap if you use d model carbs but don't qoute me, do a search or ask gosling as he is in the know about these sorts of things.

they are at salisbury.
good luck mate.

I'd chase a D model engine- C model engine was prone to blowing number three rod- maybe your problem as well as gearbox issues. D models were less prone to these problems. Only issue in swapping engines is front sprocket- I think from memory you need to keep C model sprocket, but better double check that. 8)

D model engine will fit. C model engine goes in D model frame as well and to the best of my knowledge a zzr1200 engine wil fit in a C frame. If you use a D engine use the D front sprocket. The input shaft of the C is shorter and the sprocket is dished out. The shaft is longer on the D and the sprocket is flat to keep the chainline the same.

thanks for that tip - I use a C-model 1100 front sprocket on my track bike (24mm offset ! ) but wondered why the D-model 1100 sprocket was a flat one.......funny thing is that the output shaft dimensions for the C-model ZZR1100 are identical to the output shaft dimensions of the 1983 GPz1100 motor I am running in the track bike !!

Now thats some seriously good advise, I'm impressed but unfortunately I solved the prob a couple of weeks ago... I bought another bike, same model, colour, couldn't believe my luck. I've been able to swap all the good shit off my old bike onto the new one. I would like to thank everyone for all the input cause I was still gunna do the engine swap thing but someone was looking afta me with the new / second hand bike. I wouldn't mind making her go a bit faster but gotta ride her for a bit to see how she goes, iron out any bugs first. cheers from Pinebox

Watch out for roos. I recently put a low mileage motor in my high mileage, but otherwise well looked after 1100, and within a couple of months I hit a roo on it and wrote it off. Had a minor win though, the insurance company at least gave me almost enough money to replace it. That's why I knew about the sprockets, the motor I installed was a C. Output shaft was about the only difference. D model transmision will fit in C cases so long as you use the entire D trans. No mixing and matching.
