Zx12R Suspension

Post by Supafrog »

Guys,

What is the length of the dogbones on the zx-12r stock suspension?

The previous owner looks to have dropped the height, and before i buy 'new' dogbones; I need to know how long the standard ones actually are?

Being 6'3-ish i am considering going the jack-up route.... does anyone have any thoughts on raising the height?

a 200/55 or 190/55 will raise the height a little over a 190/50 if that's what you're currently running.

Otherwise it's adjustable via shims on the rear shock. Raising the ride height will aid turn in (that's if you can find any corners over there) ;)

Think the stock dog-bones are 180mm from bolt centres, but look at your dog bones, mine (B6F) are just plain looking with a "1177" stamped onto it. The A model should have a 1163 stamped on it. That'll tell you pretty quickly if they are stock or not.

That's what I was chasing! and failing that i need to know how long the "1177" is :)

I am Looking for height as in raising the total height of the bike (front and rear). Longer than stock dogbones can achieve this i am told, as well as shims?

apparently stock is 185mm from bolt centres, but I think it's shorter dogbones, not longer, that raise the ride height...

Shims are a bit more work than a dog-bone change as far as time to fit.

You can get something like this (25mm lift):

or this (15mm lift):

ok...

so i got off my backside...

The dog bones are stamped with 1177... so how else could the ride height have been dropped at the rear?

I know i need to get the front forks pushed back done through the triples(idiot previous owneR), but i need to work out how the back could have been lowered :(

Must've shortened the rear shock instead. It's supposedly the best way. ;)

Second hand stockers shouldn't be too exxy. Check the shock does it look like the spring has been cut?

Don't forget you'll probably need a new kickstand if that's been shortened also, hate to have to park it uphill.

Thanks Paddo, your guidance and advice is appreciated...

It's starting to sound like i should just get the whole suspension setup done from scratch! will have to look into it i guess...

JPaddo is correct short bones raise height longer ones are lowering links if you go with this buy good ones dont buy on ebay but you will still have to stuff around and retune both front & rear suspensions :kuda:
If it aint broke don't fix it just gain more horsepower

About 255 mm from center of bolt to the plate.

yeah once you get the sags set right they do lean over more on the stand.
It also stops the bellypan from scraping as much too.
