Electric Savvy People can you tell me...

Post by Possum »

Is it possible to put an electric ignition on a stock (kickstart) 99 250XR Honda?

Ive been trying to find information, but cant find anything that makes any sense. From the people i have spoken with they said it's not possible, but cant explain why  Im not that savvy with ignitions, but if anyone could shed some light im all ears :D

Is there a version of that engine with electric start? If so, you'll be ok. You'll need the cases from the engine. Probably be easier to do an entire engine swap. Then you'll need all the wiring, switch block and electric leg.

Is it worth the time, cost and effort? IMHO? Nope. Better off trading it in.

Thanks Aardy,
I dont believe there is a version with an electric start. The engine has just been rebuilt. Time $$ and effort dont favor a replacement at this time. (unless i win the xmas or new year lotto :D ) Bugger, that sucks. It's a great little bike with certainly enough grunt do anything the bigger bikes did in the 'Real' hills at Gingers (just not as quick in the flats.. and i think much of that was me ). Its just the starting im having issues with atm. I'm replacing the wire and cap before Christmas and go from there. 6hrs a week, every week at the gym should also help

It is an Electric leg that she wants, and after witnessing her kick starting the thing a hundred times I think it is badly needed. She is also sorting out the ign lead and tune being the cause of said exercise/heart attack causing starting procedure.
