What do I spend my money on?
I'm torn. Ive been doing a bit of cruising around on Ebay and I can either get a undertail and hugger or do a 14/40 520 chain conversion. I'm leaning more towards go than show but am still unsure. What do you guys think?
Real bravery is being afraid but doing it anyway.

i'm biased to the chain, though bear in mind you'll be scooting around at higher rpm's.

go for the 'go',

indeed, much more respect is held for the guy that has a 180b with a stiffened chassis, reworked suspension & a smallblock chevy motor
than is had for the guy in the lancer, no no no, EXCEL with a bodykit, underskirt neons and novelty size tacho *shudder*

Little bit by little bit do both. UK site https://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/default.asp will do hugger for about $150 and under tray for similar (depend on model etc).
I like the hugger just to keep crap off the shock, keeps the rear where it should be for longer and therefore increases go in the long run Worn shock = loss of grip).
I'd consider race can, K&N filters rejetting and dyno before downing gear ratio - more power to get off the line quicker and can hold gears out longer to beat those who have downed ratio. Then go 1 tooth down on the front and you probably won't need to change the chain. Further ratios can be done when the chain/sprocket set is worn out.

re: What do I spend my money on?
I have always been interested in go before show - particularly having come from the car scene I am into "sleepers" being stock-looking old cars with new engines and lotsa good bits underneath.
The thing is, you have raised an interesting question. If there's one thing I love on most bikes, it's an aftermarket undertail.
So you have my blessing either way.. but if you start talking custom paint, polished frame, etc you can eat my ass.

Furk you mean i gotta make a choice ?.
Too much pressure ... where'd i put me Meds ?.
Seriously do both
most of the performance gear is rarely touched by most riders anyway ?.
If your doing track days etc go the Fast bits if your not I'd go for the bling as it'll make you happier looking at something more "mine" then the bike next to it in the Maccas carpark.
Cheers Brett

Will you notice the performance increase of the 520 conversion?
1 sprocket's cheaper than 2 + chain ...
Then you might have the money left for the show as well.

Possibly I wouldn't notice the difference in the chain. I have picked up a 525 and a 520 and there is enough difference in weight for me to notice. What can I say. I can be annoyingly anal retentive when it comes to things like this, and they say a kilo of unsprung mass is like four of the sprung variety. My front sprocket is stuffed and my std rear is starting to show some wear which is enough of an excuse for me to ditch it in favor of a hardened alloy one. Now all I have to do is become a good enough rider to use it.

The way that most of the bikes people have on here go......do you relly need any more?
Unless you are a track regular, I say make it stand out a bit from the average

I'm with you Shifty - Sleepers rock. I particularly like what I call the "real sleeper" variety: Vehicles that have old paint etc. not Brand New looking old cars. Of course some of this preference is due to my way of thinking that money spent on paint is money that could have been spent on more power...
As to the question at hand, I say go for the performance. Aftermarket undertrays do look nice, but there is nothing like going fast.

re: What do I spend my money on?
Why bother spending any money on performance bits? Can you ride the sucker to it's potential as it is at the moment? If so, spend the dough.
If you can't, you're gonna look pretty silly on a bike you've spent a squillion dollars making faster, only to be over taken on the first corner by someone riding a bog stock VTR 250!!
I say spend the money on the bling. At least that way if you don't want to push it too hard, you can always say that you're not in the mood for racing coz you don't wanna bin your bike.
Or even better, spend the cash on trackdays or cornering schools.

I'm with aardvark on this one.
I considered doing some upgrades to my ZX9R performance-wise. Then I realised the thing was STUPIDLY fast just how it was. (Well, for road use anyway.)
I still want a ZX12, but that is more of a comfort thing. (I'm huge.)

Reminds me of a story an ex workmate (her names Kel) from a couple of years ago told me. Her sis has/had a z300 (i cant remember the classification, but its a mofo ugly car!). and was at the lights with Kel in the passenger seat, then this old clapped out looking shitbox (fecked paint and all) rolled up next to them and gave their motor a bit of a rev.
Her sis said "i can take it", then Kel looked at the bonnet as they had a big square cut out of it with all these odd length pipes just visible through the hole in the bonnet (i think they call them tuning trumpets, something they have on some seriously tweaked cars), she said "uhm, no way, that car will cane your 300", she wouldn't believe her, but didn't give it a try anyway just to take her sisters word for it and watch it get up and go.
They had no idea what was under the bonnet but they were sure that the old shitbox would have left them sitting dead, twin turbo's and all.
re: What do I spend my money on?
Go the bling because there isnt anywhere to race at rocky anyway.
Or go the sprockets if you need them for wheelie popping.

If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?
