Runners....

Post by Supafrog »

So I went really soft last year...

Gave up the booze.
Gave up the smokes..
Gave up the awesome tasting fattie food...

...... and picked up a new addiction...

Running..... Yes... That thing we do on 2 feet when our hondas don't work(kind of like penance really)!

But seriously.. It got me to thinking.... is there any runners in this bunch? Anyone who races regularly?

No, I can shuffle but cant run as previous injuries prevent it, maybe I could train and race against Cliff Young 8)

I started about 2yrs ago - did a few fun runs last year (MS 8 km, Blackmores 10km and Bayrun 7km) but I've been a bit slack this year. Was running 5-6kms at lunch time 3 days a week, recently it's been more like once a week. My colleagues are trying to talk me into a half-marathon this Sept but I'm not sure.

How far are you doing supa?

I just started running myself, having given up smoking recently.

Ran the 14k Run For The Kids course in Melbourne here, and did the 8k Mother's Day Classic a couple of weeks ago. In training to do a half mara for Run Melb in July.

It's a great hobby, and it really brings out the competitive nature in people. Having said that, you make the best mates when you're on a group run :kuda:
ZXR750 -> ZX7R. It's an addiction, I tell you.

Good to see some people still use their legs.. what got you started dave and tomtom? ;o)

- running for any purpose is always a good reason.. doesn't need ot be competitive :)

I haven't gotten into the competitive side.. it's not what i am about ;o)

I support my partner who HAS a competitive side.. and for some reason 'enjoys' my company helping her set pace.

I'm doing 8k's twice a week
4 k's 3 times a week

and 13 k's one a week.

aiming for half marathon in august ... and about to launch into 17k's this sunday so that's really what got me started thinking./..

Good Luck with the half marathon Supafrog. Used to run about 4 times a week from a 4k 'sprint' up to 10k with swimming 2k 3 times a week. Then I got fat (snapped a ligament and broke a bone in my right ankle)and now walk 7-10km a day and think my running days are behind me. Cycling is great as an alternative but each time I look at the pushy I go and grab the keys to the zx6 :D

Sorry to hear about the ligament-damage,.... It's actually a real concern of mine... Having reliance on your body for an activity makes it hard to keep going when your body doesnt wnat to.

I haven't gotten into swimming as of yet... have talked to a few people who have suggested swimming to supplement.
I used to walk 12 k's a day before running .. never saw myself as a runner, and suprised myself one day when i managed to jog continuosly..

I got started 'cause I wanted to be fitter to reduce injuries when I fell off bikes and to get lighter (free horsepower). I got fitter but running didn't make me any lighter.
