Fine tuning.

Post by ezzazrx »

Seems like winters hit us early this year, :( so after having the forks on the rex serviced I've only managed a quick lap around the Island. When pulling the fork-legs out for the service I noticed they'd been set up 5mm through the top clamp. dontknow.gif On reassembly I set them up level with the top clamp and could notice the difference straight away.I now get to drive through the corners, instead of what felt like falling into them. For me I now feel more in control of the bike and are surprised at what a difference 5mm can make.Hoping the rain eases off enough for a spin through the Bass hills tomorrow. :kuda:
Cheers Eric.

When i had my old LTD450 (a slight mistake i know, but it had a bloody good engine and was cheap, two reasons i got it) i ended up dropping thr forks through about 18mm and that made a massive improvement in the sharpness of the bike from something quite wallowy and cruiserish to something a lot closer to an "average" non sportsbike.

Cruisers are fun, until you need to approach a corner.

If it hurts, you aren't doing it right.

I don't know if I'd put a ZRX in the cruiser category. :?

Ezza, a lot of us flip the eccentrics or jack up the rear shocks to get the arse end up and sharpen up the steering a bit rather than dropping the front, but I found it improved the bike quite a bit compared to the standard geometry. I think there is a point when you go too far though and they become a bit flighty at speed. Is the back end of yours jacked up at all?

If you do flip the eccentrics keep an eye on your chain tension - it will dig into your swingarm if it gets too loose:shock:

Nar Nelso the eccentrics are standard mate, and with the forks back down in the top brace I'm very happy with the way she feels. I like the handling to be a bit slower than a sports bike (must be my age creeping up.)
