checking out a '99 zx6r, any tips?
as stated, since binning my zx6r
i'm now in the market for another bike. this one i'm checking out has 85,000 kms on it and asking ~$5K ish. i know it sounds like a lot, but as long as it's been regularly serviced it should be ok? any inherent problems with the 98-99 model i should check for? i'm looking at it tomorrow.
cheers guys and gals!

too many kms, can't be hard to find one with less kms not to expensive

re: checking out a '99 zx6r, any tips?
yeah, mine's got about half those Kay's, and it'd prolly only go for a bit more than $5Large.... saying that, nice to know that i've got another lifetime yet on my clock!! Seriously tho, I'd say the mileage doesn't mean too much really... these things are bullet proof (knock on wood) just check the norm:
steering head bearings,
consumables (tyres, pads, filters, oil, etc...)
swingarm play (static sag)
axle play,
lever play (cables worn?)
i mean, the road worthy should get most of this stuff... (horn, turn signals, etc...)
can you take close up pics of it and have us ALL look it over for you on the forum??!!!
good luck with it mate!

From Red Dave needs a lotto ticket post mate ... all suspect n a later model but he has had gearbox dramas since he bought it 2nd hand....
Well like Tanya said we lobbed up at the PA n caused Bedlam amonst the sock wearers sick codgers of Ward E5, After some detective work from Tanya, much discussion & Bike examination it seems the Sceneario went something like this .....
Poking along doing about 80 - 90ks Dave approached a gentle sweeper n started to enter the corner, from where the skid marks start it appears Daves "dodgey Gearbox" has locked up n picked the bike up n run across the road. He's Grabbed a fistfull of Front break & done a huge stoppie which tossed him over the Bars n onto the bitumen on his right shoulder n forehead, the bike not content to leave it at that has run over him n launched the front wheel onto the car bonnet which had stopped n dave ended up under the front bumperbar
That would be a DAVE5 (reddave) moment.
Hth.
Cheers Brett

re: checking out a '99 zx6r, any tips?
so i checked out the bike, pretty much all stock including the paint scheme. engine pulled nicely, didn't miss a beat. didn't appear to be any sign of a drop, however some slight scratches on the RHS fairing indicate that it probably had a minor scrape against a wall or side of a car.
i was a bit disappointed with the handling however (i'd had the suspension rebuilt on my previous bike so i may have been a bit spoilt).
anyone know how often the valve clearances need to be checked?
also had a look in the trading post for similar year zx6r's, average price was around $7.5K (obviously with less kms).
