Z1R numbers

Post by coupe060 »

Hi,I'm new to forum and been away from bikes for quite a few years.I am looking to buy a Z1R mk2 and I am wondering if the chassis and engine numbers should match as in the case of cars.Any help would be much appreciated.Regards Pat.

No - Kawasaki frame & engine numbers *never* matched exactly. (although there were a very limited number of the first Z1 released in the US that apparently had matching numbers.....apparently  )

There are certain ranges where you should find the engine number sits, for certain models. If the engine number is outside this range, then it won't be the original engine for the bike.

Generally, the higher up the range of engine & frame number, the further apart the numbers will be. But if the numbers are less than 2000 apart (as a general rule of thumb) - then you can be reasonably sure that the engine & frame combo is original.
