Current track tyres

Post by photomike666 »

I'm looking at new hoops for the trackie, but my present choice of rubber has been discontinued.

This is only a 600cc track day bike, never goes on the road - but I don't race and don't have tyre warmers.

Present rubber is Pilot Race - done 4 track days (2 at PI 2 at Broadford).

Currently considering

Michelin Pilot Pure
Bridgestone BT003
Dunlop Sportmax GP-A

Any data on track usage from there tyres would be great.

003's are a fantastic all round tyre that I use on the track then throw at the roadie to finish off (when I had both 636's)
Generally I would see 3-4 track days (rear) 5-6 days (front) in colder conditions before change over... 3 max (rear) for Really hot summer sessions :D

I think they'd all be fine Mike but Robs actually used the BT003's so they sound like a good option.

I've used a Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa or whatever they are on the 10 and it was pretty good. Chris had a set of Metzeler Racetecs as well and they seemed to work well.

Theres a new Dunlop thingy out now as well, based on Ntec technology (whatever that means)

I gather from that selection you found the site ok ;) As discussed this morning the 003s seem pretty good on the nine.

I ordered the pilot pure in the end, hoping they will have similar consistence at the pilot race. Also got a new power 2 ct for the 10 & a mate got a set of road 2s. 5 tyres, $717.77US including postage!

Well Mike, while I havn't used a 003, I have used a 002 and if the 3 is even just as good as the front 2 was, you should be happy.002's back in 06 were the best SS front tyre around.

Glen you and I have also used the 2CT's (forerunner to the PURE) on the crim at the creek? I put them around the creek somewhere in the mid 1:50's at the christmas trackday and they were fine, just spun up a few times out of 12 but seemed like other people were too.

I went from them to the PURE for the Oxley Run and they feel great (but then again I went from an old tyre to a new one). Don't think that helps much, looking fwd to getting them to the track soon. :kuda:

I have used the GPRa11 on the track bike with no drama's at all....Ended up transfering them onto the road bike to finish them off and am happy with them.....ECRD has them for $399 fitted....Maybe PIRD has them for that price aswell????

If anyone is ordering tyres from the US I'll come in with ya & share the postage!
Im looking at the 003s, GPAs or if you can get them some, Metzler Racetec Interac Comp K1.
All of these tyres are good for sub 1.39s at the creek.

I know you didn't mention them, but I run Dunlop Q2's and love them to bits. Interweb reviews are similarly glowing.

Just thought I'd share 8)
