zxr400 engine in a zxr250

Post by vr4goleta »

Hi all,

I recently picked up a zxr250 1991 which is in need of a new engine, but im having trouble fiding one. I have managed to find a cheap zxr400 engine, but will it fit straight in without too much modification, otherwise does anyone know where i can get a 250 engine cheap.

Thanks in advance, Logan

Hi and welcome.

Good luck with that. You might be able to pick one up at a wreckers, but it may be hit and miss for the condition. Alternatively, if you want to spend somewhere around $1000 (thats what I was quoted in '06 when I bought mine, probably add a few hundred to that now) you could get one through Sumoto in Melbourne. They are the registered importer of ZXR250's in Oz. If you find out about the 400 engine fitting the 250 frame, I would be interested in hearing the outcome.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Sumoto quoted $1000 for a WHOLE engine  I got quoted $450 for a stock rear can for my zxr250

Whats up with the original engine. They are pretty damn easy to fix up mostly they have valve issues and carbs in desperate need of a rebuild. You would never fit a zxr400 lump between the spars. cheers.
