From CBR250 to ZX6R?

Post by bindy »

Would it be a good step up from CBR250RR to get on a ZX6RR? or R or whatever? Im only 55kg and 5"5 but have been riding a few years now?

I found this transition a good one... CBR250 to 2002 ZX636 (last of the older shaped ones).

Not sure about the newer shapes though... :?

Long as you feel comfortable on the 6 mate...

Oh and 55kg... theres a few light weights here on 6's so that shouldn't be a prob.

cheers

Welcome Bindy, I think the main factor would be the increase size & Your hieght, the zx6r's can be pretty tall in the seat n this can make the slow riding stuff a bit tricky. I'm roughly 55kg myself n 5'4" n most of the new bikes i have to one foot a lot of the time. I would think an 02 ZX6R would be the go because it has ride height adjustment n is the best of the old style 6's.
Hth.

Welcome Bindy.

I agree with Brett (Pontikat), the newer zx6r's are higher in the seat than the old ones. I'm over 6ft and have a 2004 zx6r which I feel very comfortable on.

Every model of the ZX6 has featured ride height adjustment... and came from the factory with it set to minimum, meaning there's not much seat lowering from stock to be had there, unfortunately

Being smaller, though, the Alien-Invader 636 (B1, B2) would actually be more suited to someone of a small stature than earlier bikes... excepting the 6R-F, but presumably, those are too old to be of interest here.

You can allways buy a lower link to drop the ride height if you really wanted to.

No, they didn't. They had the more sensible pair of locknuts, one above and one below the top shock mount. To alter the ride height, you undo the top locknut, take weight off the rear wheel, twiddle the bottom locknut to the desired position, rest the bike on it, then whack both the nuts up tight (carefully, as confusion during this last part could hurt). In a pinch, if you were desperate to drop the seat as low as it could go, you could pull the top shock mount apart and remove the bottom locknut for a pooftenth (the thickness of the locknut, 6-7mm) less seat height.

I'm aware they went to locknut-and-shim adjustment for '02 and beyond; wasn't know they actually came with any sort of shim in there from stock, though. Thanks for that.

It might be more accurate, but it's an infinitely bigger pain in the anal to adjust... "Hmm, bike feels like it could stand to tip in a bit quicker. Let's jack the arse end up a bit... (whirring sound of 3-phase lathe starting up)" as opposed to "Where's my 24mm spanner?"

It's like when they started leaving C-spanners out of the standard toolkit and advising you to visit your dealer to adjust your rear preload... grumblemumblefuggencahns...

Well bindy i did it some time ago and if you take it easy with the throttle for a bit its a great bike. Are you going for a new one or a second hand one?

The rideing position is a bit diferent and its a lot harder to turn them around in driveways and stuff because your feet dont quite touch the ground (lower it a bit) and they weigh a fair bit more compared to a cbr 2fiddy.

Should be way better for touring on around spazmania. :D :D :D
