1993 ZZR 600 stopped!!

Post by farmer »

As i was riding home from work, i pulled over after already ridden around 50 kilometres. As normal my bike started and ran perfect, when i changed from 5th to 6th when i let out the clutch i lost all revs. My bike will start fine and idle away but as soon as the clutch is released when put into gear it losses all revs and stops.. If anyone has any suggestions to what this may be caused by i am willing to give it ago. Your help will be muchly appreciated.

Welcome to KSRC ;)

Does it feel like an electrical issue or a fueling issue? IE is it coughing and spluttering when you try to increase the revs or just die suddenly like no spark?

When was the last time the plugs were replaced? Carbs cleaned? Valves checked? Fuel filter checked? There are a lot of variables here to consider - and more experienced people who will be along with other ideas for you to check.
I don't like the term insane - I prefer mentally hilarious!

Perhaps a fault with the side stand switch?

Doesnt appear to be fuel as it starts and idles fine. Will rev out ok. Wil rev and idle fine when in gear with the clutch in, but when released the motors dies. Even at higher revs.

There is a cutout switch on the clutch perch of some bikes so that you have to hold the clutch in when starting the bike. I can't see how that's causing the problem exactly but it sounds like a possibility....
