(Help) zxr250 1991 (NUBE)

Post by mope zx2r »

hey there '

was wondering if any body in melbourne would be able to assist in fixing my my lil ninja

it seems to run as if there is no battery in it and i push started it
but also seems to have a petty smell to it when i turn her over
and i hae also been told that my choke and accelerator cables are gone

she was runnin fine till the next day when it all started all at once
wouldnt accerlate and just was trying to make itself stall
oh and it does start n rev but when off the accelerater it wont stay idleing

this is all from mates (unprofssionals) and non riders

any help would be greatly thanked with some beers :P

Any more description re the smell? Is it fuel? Is it something burning - like electrical?

Choke and throttle cables gone? As in they need adjusting? Seems a little strange if it "started all as once".

Check the battery first of all - make sure it's holding a charge and being charged in the first place. Use a multimeter.
Check the battery terminals - make sure they are clean and tight.

Check your spark plugs - have a look at each one and make sure its clean and dry. Google "how to read spark plug condition" to see pics of what to look for.

It starts, revs but wont idle? It may be that your pilot jets need cleaning - if so strip and clean the carbs - it's worth doing.

There are a lot of different things you've mentioned here that need to be looked at and we need a little more information to get a better idea of whats going on.

No doubt Gos will be along soon - he'll probably have better answers tho :kuda: :kuda:

its deffitinly a petrol smell not burning

my choke cable barely moves
and the snap back on my accelerater went all dodgey till i put it back in place
and once i let o off the accerlater it dies but if i keep the revs it runs i didnt try ride it like this
thought it would be a bad idea and i got pretty shit luck so iwasnt goin to push it
dont drink and ride its just stupid

Sounds like your carbs need a good clean and inspection.

When you say "till I put it back in place" - you mean closing the throttle by hand rather than it snapping shut by itself? I guess it's possible that it's the linkages at the carbs thats the problem.

Take a look at the linkages as well and make sure your cables are ok at the same time. I seriously doubt the whole problem is just with the cables but check them and the linkages first. If they are ok I suspect you need to dismantle and clean the carbs.

Good time to check the plugs and air filter as well - make sure it's all good :)

Do you have a shed and tools? If not, I'm in Oakleigh, Bring it round and we'll lube the cables and clean the carbs, check out the fuel ETC. Just hard to work out when, With Christmas, life is bazaar.

Try and have a look at the fuel in your tank. Syphon a bit out and see what colour it is. These bikes can have a problem with rusted fuel tanks, and the problem your describing sounds the same as when it happened to mine. I could rev the guts out of it and it would be fine, as soon as I cut the throttle it would die. Soon found out that the whole bottom inch or so of the tank is lined in rust. Just another possibility for you to check.

Ok mate. PM me and we'll sort something out. I have all the tools we'll need to get it sorted.

Next time your passinga bike shop buy an inline fuel filter and we'll toss that in as well.
