The "rear hand rails" or pillion handles save your bike when you crash!
It looks simliar to zx <whatever>. you need to take rear seat off and undo the inside bolt and if you undo the bolt for each handle on the rear fairing there is like a metal washer/bush combo that you can plop back in to keep the fairing bolted on.

Another white 7. Noice.
I've never seen plugs made to the shape to fit them but if you find some I want to know about it, and if you dont find them, I might have to get my engineer brother to look at trying to make a set, it sound like a good idea.
There are several other areas where the fairing is attached to the sub frame so I think it will deffinately stay in place if you leave them off. The handles may help to support the fairing a little but they don't actually apply any pressure to the fairing (if that makes sense). They bolt onto the subframe through the fairing.
Only the top paragraph is actually relevant to the question your asking though isn't it? You probably already know most of this shit!!

For future reference, the parts you are referring to are called "Grab Rails". Calling them grab rails, stops the guys in spare parts and wreckers laughing at you!
The white 7 looks awesome.
