New manual fan switch = dead diddly dead battery

After facing withdrawal for the past weak while my bike sat at the mechanics getting full service and suspension, etc. They installed a manual override for the fan because apparently it wouldn't turn on. And then of course I forgot to turn the damn thing off when I got into work this morning!! So dead battery. Not even enough to light the instruments so almost definetely not enough to push start with. Trying to think of any way possible not to have to catch a train for 2 hrs to get home. Anybody in epping/north ryde wanna give me a lift to mt druitt. Or give me a jump? I didn't think so. :evil:

Might be an idea to wire that manual switch into a wire thats only live while the ignition is on....would have thought the mechanic would have done that tho!!
I don't like the term insane - I prefer mentally hilarious!

+1 they've bodgied it a bit there by not putting on the ignition switched power, but it's not a permanent solution so it'll keep you going until you get it sorted out.

Was your fan working when you took the bike to them? If so you're well within your rights to at least question if they'd done anything that may have caused it.

Best get a battery charger to work early in the day and charge it up to see if it's salvagable and will hold charge.

Surely they only did this as there wasn't a thermostatic fan switch available and you wanted your bike back in a hurry.

Oh and had I seen this last night I would have driven right past you at about 6pm and I have jumper leads. No help now but thought I share.

Hopefully you were able to jump start it?

Well I brought the charger in with me this morning. I get the multimeter out and she's reading 11v and 0.5A. I would have thought that would be enough to at least light up my instruments! She's at about 13V and 0.6A now, so if she still doesn't light up then I think maybe they bodgied the circuit they tapped or something. I was a little annoyed that they didnt at least ask me first. Pretty sure thats specific part of the code of conduct for mechanics is to call before starting extra work. Haven't checked yet how they actually mounted the switch. I'm sure they wouldn't be stupid enough to drill...

yeah....not sure about that last statement.....they were stupid enough to tap it in on a live wire rather than an ignition live wire......hope you get this sorted asap.
