problem cranking

Post by wowie »

i have a 93 Zxr 750 ,,, she wont crank , all i have is a clicking noise from the igniter box ,, i tested the starter , and starter solinoid all good ,,, the side stand switch was seized and stuck out which is fine , i tested the circuit and its not working to i pluged it into it self at the plugs and tried this , no cigar ,,,,i have jumped the bike direct from battery ,,, so this seems all good and started no worries ,,,, so could the igniter box be faulty ? any ideas ,,, all i get is a clicking noise from this box , ?

G'day wowie
This may seem way too easy....but perhaps your battery is shot..
Have you tried charging the battery..????
If you have a mate with a bike with the same battery as yours try using his before you go hand over your hard earned and purchase a new one...

Fuel pump starter relay..?..Had similar issues with my ZXR..Changed that, and away it went..maybe the connections on that need a clean up..But as Maddog says a low battery can cause the "clicking " sound....Hope that helps.

I had a similar prob with a GSXR early model, all it needed was the starter cleaning, I mean pull it apart and and clean everything inside, oil up the bearing and change the brushes if they are looking short.
It started fine then with a fresh topped up battery.
cheers.....

i got the same prob with my 97 zx7r, i start it every day and so far its been ok, makes a ticking noise under seat, i find if i pump the clutch while i press the starter it usualy starts too and also tapping on the solenoid also kicks her into life, ive changed the battery and solenoid too but still not perfect, let me know if u get to the bottom off it :D

There is a connector near the clutch lever under the handle bar that you plug into from the left hand switchblock..
Not a 100% sure but think its for the stand down over ride when the clutch is pulled in...
Had dramas with mine (zx7r) starting....Replaced it and...BINGO..
It was faulty and creating an inconsistant circuit until replaced..

Just a possibility......

Having similar problems with my partner's GSX250F. Started to turn over then stopped; push starts very easily, but no starter. Starter relay is good, and I'm getting full voltage to the starter motor. Battery is good. Side stand switch is good. Plan next is to take out the starter.
