Pink slips in NSW
ok...noobish question but ive never owned a vehicle that is exactly 5 years old...also way older or brand new...
bike build os 12/2005, i dont have my rego papers on me at the moment and im trying to sort some stuff out, so i need to know if i need to get a pink slip.
I know that after 5 years you do need to get them, but i dont know if that is 5 inclusive...anyone know?

Re: Pink slips in NSW
My thought are you would get 5 full years of registration from when the vehicle is first registered in Australia. If this was the case you would have gone 04/06-04/10 would be 4 years only and you'd have one more year without inspection.
Only real way to tell conclusively is to call the RTA.

"2008 vehicle registration reforms
On 17 August 2007, the Minister for Roads announced major reforms to the vehicle registration process that will save NSW motorists time and money. These reforms will take effect from 1 July 2008. See below for a full explanation of the reforms or click here to renew your rego.
Extension of Vehicle Safety Inspection Exemptions
The period for vehicle safety inspection exemption for new light vehicles is now extended from three to five years.
The five year inspection exemption also applies to light commercial vehicles, panel vans, caravans, trailers and four wheel drive vehicles with a compliance date of 1 July 2003 onwards. Your renewal notice will indicate if an inspection is required.
The new policy does not apply to heavy vehicles, buses, public passenger vehicles, taxis and hire cars. Hire cars are now required to have annual inspection."

It'll be printed on your rego renewal slip if an inspection is required.

Re: Pink slips in NSW
I bought my Crim in March 2005 new and I've just had it re rego'd and it needed an inspection for the first time. The key date is the first registered date not the build date though
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.
