Tack's tour
Quite a few years ago I was road director (I was a 'b' grade rally director for CAMS if that means anything to anyone) for a number of car rallies (Victorian Rally Championship not treasure hunts) down in the Gippsland area. Obviously having covered nearly every square inch of that country in search of roads for these events I came across a large number of really good twisty bitumen roads scattered through out that area.
I know that many of you would be familiar with some of these roads but I know quite a few roads that maybe people really haven't looked at or maybe haven't considered. I'm only new here so I dunno what the status quo is. I was interested in putting together all the good roads for you guys to ride in one day if you would be interested. (As a few might know there some pretty good twistied in this area)
I was wondering if I design a route with times, distances and breaks whether
A) if I could take a couple of experienced guys over the route so you can see if its appropriate,
B) If any of you guys would be interested in having a ride once its "approved" by the experienced riders and
C) I could get some experienced rider to
1) lead the ride (I only got a 250 and I only been riding a month) and
2) people to act as corner markers (there are few intersections but only here and there) and someone to act as a tail end charlie (in rallying we have a following vehicle called the "sweep").
I know I'm only new to riding but having been a rally director I may have a slightly different approach which some might like....hopefully...lol.
I just thought it would be nice to be able to ride a continuous number of great roads (excluding the transport there and back along the freeway)and not be held up by cars in one afternoon. Does that sound good?
p.s I have already started to design a course if anyone's interested.

re: Tack's tour
Great Idea, many roads in gippsland would be good riding. Been away for so long now i can't remember many of them and many may have degraded or have been improved in that time. There are some great roads out the back Of Toora and foster over to Mirboo acroos to Tarwin etc, Wilsons Prom road is a great casual ride too.

re: Tack's tour
sounds great, always nice to discover some new twisties.
How longs it take to get down that way from melbourne? would it be a day ride?

re: Tack's tour
yep it will be a day ride..my main idea is to do as many really good bits of road (fun bits) for as long as possible and minimise transport to and from the fun bits.
the trip (transport section) to the first bit of good road (fun bits) is approx 1 hour from Dandenong (66kms) then the idea is to do a series of 45km to 70 km fun bits with 15 min breaks in between and an hour for lunch. The trip back is approxiamately an hour also.
I have calculated if we left Dandenong at 9am we would be back at Dandenong at 5pm.
Just as a general warning, most of the roads are very good buuuuuut...they are country roads so there are some rough bits (not much), there are iscolated places were sand encrouches onto the road surface (just the edges), there are a few iscolated bits of broken road (no pot holes though) there are places were cowes cross and poo on the road (can be slippery if fresh) and there is some bits of bark and leaves in places. So I hope people don't mind this and ride accordingly.
However just for example there is one peice of road that I reckon is a thing of beauty (I would like to stop there for pics). Its a section of road that is unbelieveably clean, smooth, nice grippy surface, fully lined...... just simply a beautiful piece of bitumen.... cut into the side of a hill with the forest cut back and has a clean forest floor and the trees are bare for about 2 metres from the ground and there is lush green grass both sides of the road. Its down hill and has about 10 or 12 twists in it that you can see a bike coming for a fair distance. Its like a picture of bike heaven. I would love to have a big pic of this bit with me on my bike comin down it. hmmmm...lol..ahh the freedom of the open road, the sun gently peaking through the trees, my mean green kawasaki cranked over, the sound eckoing....hmm..lol..sorry
When riding down it you start to wonder what the hell this piece of road is doing out in the middle of this forest in the middle of no where when the roads to it are of a much lesser quality. I reckon someone built this one bit just for us to have fun on.

re: Tack's tour
yup im up for this one,
it'll make a change from sitting in the passenger seat of zzr_angels car on the way to her grandparents place drooling over all the roads we should be riding on!
but just a note:
The local rag has a warning the roadies are going to do works on many sections between Leongatha and Morwell. This includes either side of Mirboo North. so you may have to take this into account when planning the route .

re: Tack's tour
Sure PontiKat, I'd be happy to bring my directing skills up to Brissy and design a fun course for you guys...for a small fee...lol...well actually..you should wait to see if the guys here like my routing first...it may be the first and last trip designed by me that they will be willing to go on
For all the people that said that they might be interested I have designed a course and picked a date of May 1st. Go to the ride section to see the details. I think you will really love some of the roads down there.
Hopefully Cya all there.
