Re: Factory Pro Shift Star Kit
For a road bike I'm not sure that I'd bother to be honest, but on the track they're worth their weight in gold.

Re: Factory Pro Shift Star Kit
I had a factory pro detent arm in my zx9r and it was the best mod I made... A lot of $ for what it is but after putting it in it was well worth it. I was getting false neutrals all the time and it put a stop to that.
I also have one in my zx10r with the star wheel, not as big an improvement as it was on the 9 but gave smoother quicker shifts..
These were / are both track / race bikes though...

What sort of "clunky" gearbox issue are you talking about? Adding a shift star / detent arm will make the box really crash into gear very positively, but certainly wont make the 'boxes "smoother".Peter wrote:I am just wondering if they stop the clunky gearbox issue on the Z's ??

Re: Factory Pro Shift Star Kit
What year model Z do you have?.....I have an '09 and the gearbox isn't clunky at all if anything is very direct....I did a mineral change on mine at 300k's with filter and changed to 5100 at 1,000k's also with filter and does seem a bit smoother with the oil change but no clunk as suchPeter wrote:I am just wondering if they stop the clunky gearbox issue on the Z's ??

Oh and mine has never done a mono

Re: Factory Pro Shift Star Kit
It will up in the revs... faster = smoother...
The zx9r only had a detent arm and heavier spring - no star wheel so shifting was harder in the low revs due to the spring but up in the revs it was quicker and smoother.
The zx10r has a detent arm and star wheel, no heavier spring, so is no harder to shift than the std one at any revs but is a bit more positive on the change and quicker.
It depends on where the clunk is - if its in the selector it will help (depending on what you get in the F/P kit), if its in the box, ie worn shift forks or dogs, it won't help...
If your std detent arm looks like a pizza slicer (round plate with rivet in it) then the FP detent arm with roller bearings will be an improvement, especially with missed shifts and false neutrals.
Shift STAR kit
Don't settle for clunky Z1000 shifting.....
If you have notchy, clunky shifting - Install Factory Pro's copyrighted design Shift STAR kit and breathe that sigh of relief -
Includes Famous Shift STAR, Factory Pro Microbearing Detent Arm, heavy duty detent spring and gasket. Makes shifting more positive - fewer missed shifts - It actually makes the "10" on of the better shifting bikes out.
The Marc Salvisberg designed Shift STAR ramps are designed to make it easier to get out the gear that you are in - easier to roll over the Star "peak" and then, magically, quicker than stock - into the next gear -
The stronger detent spring rotates the shift drum quicker, so the gears are more likely to engage under quick shift conditions. Big improvement when quick shifts, especially from 1st to 2nd.
The Microbearing removes friction for the quickest shifting. The STAR makes it even slicker -
It's an inexpensive, absolutely reliable addition to your bike for better

I'm talking about the same clunky gearbox that everyone with an 03 to 06 Z has been talking about on this and every other kawasaki forum.dave#3 wrote:What sort of "clunky" gearbox issue are you talking about? Re: Factory Pro Shift Star Kit
Peter I just did a search on here for "Z1000 gearbox" there were 22 hit's and half of them were your's about a rattle in your gearbox....I can't find anything about a clunky Z1000 gearbox issue on here.....Peter wrote: I'm talking about the same clunky gearbox that everyone with an 03 to 06 Z has been talking about on this and every other kawasaki forum.
