crash knobs on gumby

Just wondering if you have to cut the fairing to put crash knobs on, and where do they attach? Thanks

No cut required with "O" word knobs........

where do they attach to? Have you dropped it with them, how do they hold up?

I had them fitted at a dealer, but I believe they are attached to the head and also to each other with a support bar running behind the radiator, I haven't dropped it to test them out, so can't help with that....... touch wood.......

You are probably weighing up if they are a viable expense, which is what I did before getting them. I heard reports that having them in an off cracks the head and causes more damage that what they save, etc etc. This may or maynot be right. This is also why I went for the extra expense of the genuine "O" knobs and not the cheaper ebay ones, I believe you get what you pay for.... I think from memory I paid around $400 fitted........ I decided to get them to save damage in a low speed, or an off the stand fall. The type you would most likely pay for yourself and not go through insurance... I figured it wouldn't matter with or without them in a high speed off, cause it would probably be a write off anyway....... Hope this helps.......

And if you do get them, don't forget to tell your insurer to add them on the policy

is there a reason why you wouldnt ? my bike recently fell over on the side of the road in some wet leaves and scratched up the side pretty good, got some light scratches on the tank, then the saqme day got cut off by someone in a roundabout and could have had a slow speed stack, so i was thinking about getting some to save the tank if i were to do down in a slow speed prang.

from what ive seen and heard in stationary draps they work well, but it appears to be luck as to weather they do more good than bad if you crash while moving... mick c got away with almost no damage from a full blown highside, and i think dave3s mutant was saved a bit but depending on where they mount they can cause damage to the frame/engine or so ive heard...

yeah, i have heard about damage to frame and other parts as well becuase the whole weight of the bike is falling onto one point rather than being distributed across the bike.

I want to save mt tank and fairings but also dont want to damage the core structure of the bike

They mount on points that also mount to the motor. Ive had 3 drops on mine all at a fair pace on the track. They wont save your tank or fairings at any pace unfort. At a standstill drop they may save your tank but not entirely sure... What they will save is the frame and possibly forks, radiator (although mine got slightly bent and needed some crack repair), motor etc...

Would I recommend them??? Probably not the exe brand... At $95 the Kaneg one's would probably do the same job and are much cheaper

they seem to mount pretty solidly.

I dont expect them to do alot at high speed, just slow speed stack or off the stand to reduce the chance of sratching the tank and fairing.

Those ebay one's are for a 04-05???

The Kaneg one's I think mount on the same point as the others... They are a single bolt versus the whole frame which attaches to the exact same point but the unnamed one's have the frame running in front of the motor which may provide less stress to that single bolt bit. Anyone else got a tip here?

Either way both will do the same job! But Id also stress that depending on the angle of the bike falling over the tank is reasonably exposed which in a way protects the frame seeing as the tank sits wider... Maybe just dont drop the thing next time?

This afternoon i was "playing with the trackie" as it had a bit of a thumble at EC recently. All I can say that the damage would have been a lot greater if I didn't have the crash knobs and quite frankly I don't care if any of you guys get them elsewhere for different reasons, just as long as you have them on the bike.

Naturally we'd be happy to help, we have most years models in stock.

Ok first post and trying to reignite an old thread....

I need help knowing where / how to mount kaneg no-cut crash knobs on a 2010 zx10r. I know where the 'cut' ones mount but I guess the 'no cut' jobs will need to mounts elsewhere?!

Pete's not a Kwaka man...so if anybody can give me bike specific advice I'd really appreciate it!

Lovin' my new zx10 (yes I bought the 2010 model new 'cause I can't go past a bargain like that)
