more Cameras...Mexicans beware

Post by Smitty »

have been toodling around the SE 'burbs of Melbourne in the cage today and at 2 major intersections
have watched VicRoads people/contractors installing new...combined Redlight AND Speed cameras
at Springvale Rd/Cheltenham rd (Keysborough) and Springvale/Wellington Rds (Mulgrave)

the redlight cameras I dont mind ( at least they catch mungrels who run the Red and who can wipe you out)
buy watch the Speed bit.. do not accelerate thru these intersections ! :x

Vicroads are obviously targetting major intersections in the SE burbs for these new cameras

you have been warned....
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

I saw on the TV news last week that QLD are getting them also......

and of cause NSW is following the other states. At least in NSW we get pre-warning signs of the cameras......

In NSW.......

SPEED CAMERA AHEAD is speed only...
RED LIGHT CAMERA AHEAD is red light only....
SAFETY CAMERA AHEAD is the combined speed and Red light cameras....

Not the new combined (SAFETY) Red Light / Speed camera's........... oh and there will be about 20 odd locations, but only 9 cameras, so you won't know which one is working at the time........

ahh - yes, we have. The combined speed/red light camera's have been operating at several locations in the ACT now for about 4 or 5 years. They are all posted, so really, if you get nailed by one of these, no sympathy.

Steve - I actually heard an ad for the new aerial patrols in NSW today !!! Light planes that, according to the NSW Commish - "....run on the smell of an oily rag...." I mean WTF ??? Is this meant to be some type of nod to the greens ??? Good luck with that, the aerial patrols are only good on those roads that have been marked - mainly highways from what I could see on the trip home yesterday, and only in certain sections..... ;)

Anyone else remember when the new expressway opened up between Sydney & Newcastle back in the 80's ??? They used helicopters back then for speed patrols......the big road signs used to get graffitied with * Pigs In Space* ....  - Due to the entirely *uneconomical* returns of spending 20grand on helicopter fuel to raise 5grand in speeding fines - this practice was quietly discontinued only months after it kicked off......

Also been doing a lot of travelling in the jam jar .... I've seen new ones at Warrigle Rd / Princes, 2 new one between there and Dandenong, new one at Montegue and Bay St (Pt Melb) and LOTS of conversions from old red light to combined as you said. They're also testing a new style at White St / Nepean Hwy in Mordi with diffeent cameras and sensors built into the pavement ( as announced in a separate post by someone else previously on these new styles).

I use an old Uniden GPS301 that I've had to continually manually update so it beeps in plenty of time for these new junctions.

Remember this well Gos....shows our age eh...had the same thing on the hume between Goulburn and Campbelltown.

Had a run to Wollongong and return today. They have marked the Hume Boreway south of South Marulan turnoff and around Paddys River. White lines on both lanes and both directions at 500 metre intervals for about 5kms. All set for the *pigs in Space 2* and this time they are using fixed wings. These lines are on the hilly sections where ground patrol doesn't normally operate.
