My first ride on a 600 4cyl...

Post by Felix »

...has ruined the ER for me.

My brother recently bought himself a Yammy FZ6, so I went and had a ride today. Man, what an awesome machine. It feels ergonomically similar to the ER5 in seating position etc, but that's where the similarities end. Ok, the bars felt a fraction lower, but that's it. The motor is silky smooth, has heaps of pull, and makes the most awesome noise when you rip the throttle open... Tyres are proper size, and it has a fairly solid feel. Brakes were excellent. Ok so I was nursing it (he hasn't dropped it, and I'm not keen to ruin his day by adding even one scratch to it), but it was something I could get very used to. Something very appealing about a 4cyl motor...

So this is what I've been missing...fabulous!

Oh, and I scored his old RJays top box - he got the Yammy factory fitting top box thingy... :D :D :D

No. I wont be doing that.

Not soon in any case. The ZZR600 is probably the front runner for being my next bike, and I don't want to tease myself with something I can't have...yet.

No, for the aforementioned reason... I thought the FZ6 would be nice, but I never imagined HOW nice...

The Z750 is probably the closest thing kwaka has to it...I think the FZ6 is on par for power, but the Z750 has it on torque...FZ6 motor might be less vibby though from what I hear...either would do nicely though :P

I think I would like some fairing next time, however, that may not be such an issue...depending on where I end up and how frequently I do longer distance stints. 300km in a day is all I can stand on the ER...although that is only because I have a decent screen on it, and mostly I am getting a very sore bum/tailbone.

Mind you, if I have cash ready when he wants to trade up, the decision might already have been made  ...I didn't this time, or I'd have myself an SV650S...

Felix, the most important thing to remember, is DON'T jump in!!
You need to ride more than one bike, compared to your current bike, most bikes are going to feel a helluva lot better..
Test ride, and keep an open mind :)

Yeah, I know what you're saying.

I am getting pretty comfortable with the ol' ER though...I am getting more familiar with its handling, and usually when it feels off, it is time to check the tyre pressure...

Good thing I don't have the money to spend. Can't wait till I do though
