Zxr250 questions

I'm looking at a 1996 (complience) Zxr250 with around 60000kms on the clock and a few scratches on the fairing.

Can anyone tell me what sort of price it would be worth? I dont want to spend a great deal of money but love these bikes.

Also is there anything i should be wary of on a bike with that amount of k's or similar?

That's a 4 cyl 250 innit? It's probably worn out...keep looking. Or pay next to nothing for it and take a chance.

Here is a good example, airfares are cheap and unregistered you would get it heaps cheaper.

All you have to do here in Qld is the owner removes the plates and deregisters the bike.

You as the rider/buyer get a receipt for stamp duty in NSW and an unregistered vehicles permit from Qld Transport for set number of days and ride it home and register it in NSW.

However all though not compulsory and non transferrable in other states its good to have the owner get a roadworthy on it anyway, here in QLD it is $30 bucks I think.

Thats of course if you were looking to buy interstate.

If I ever get another bike I won't rule out going interstate for the right bike.

mate i have a 2000 model complied in 03 i paid 6000 for it with 7000km on it. i have a mate who is selling his not sure of years but its newer than mine with 1600km on it for 7000. pm me u want any more help

Ultimate Motorcycles on the Sunshine Coast does import bikes like you'd be interested in, and they ship anywhere in the country for $100. Beat that.

From memory (when I was looking for a first bike a year or so ago) they had decent looking bikes starting from $4k. I wouldn't be too bothered stuffing around with old crap for that kind of dough.

3000 thats is a good price but the thing is what year is the bike? not compliance year. 96 complied. 10 years since bike complied. how many km on it?60000 i would find that unlikely. i rekon its done well over that

For a 10 year old machine with enough k's to be at the upper end of the engine life - yeah $3k a bit much. Don't forget, it isn't just the engine that is old, shocks and springs would be getting on too.

I am not sure what the UltimateMotorcycles bikes have on them, but I think they are normally less than 10,000k's...make a phone call and find out. That would make more sense, and probably cost less overall. And if it is a better bike to start with, you have a higher chance of getting a decent price for it when you want to upgrade.

I can't justify 7k for a re-complianced bike that is 10-15 years old!!! ridiculous if you ask me. They should all be 3k or less. What other bike in those circumstances in Aust are commanding those ridiculous prices.

Thing is people are selling them for the formentioned price privately and acheiving it.

Well at the risk of being unpopular (for a kwaka dedicated forum at any rate)...

If I had to be stuck with a 250 for a year, and I knew I was going to sell it at the end of that year and get something else...I reckon it would be hard to go past $5500 for a brand spanker Hyosung Comet with 2 year warranty...or for that matter a second hand one not more than 2 years old - what do they go for? Peanuts, but they usually have low k's, and are in good nick. If you wanted to be pragmatic...

Or you could grab Cath's ZZR for $3800.
Both Dave and Cath look after their bikes very well so you know it's in good nick.

Three grand seems like a reasonable price for 60 000ks, Engine would of seen better days though as they red line to @17000 rpm n the first 20 oooks would of been done at legal speeds before it was imported to aus, then probably flogged since then. They are a pretty tidy little packabe though & only other grey imports will match it in the handling stakes for the same cc. I'd price an ingine rebuild before you bought it so you know what your up for, I've not heard of any dramas with them, but better to be prepared just in case she tosses a valve down a pot.

I know where there's a green ZXR250 that's just been sitting for at least 3 months. Thinking about finding out who owns it - might even get rid of the Honda(s) if the owner's inclined to sell at a reasonable price ...

Oh, yeah - on topic, I think the price is ok depending on condition. For me it'd have to be pretty nice at that price considering the K's.
