'05 ZX6R Crash Knobs?

Post by DadAgain »

I'm just about to take delivery of an '05 ZX6R ( :D ) and am keen to put on crash knobs.

I asked the dealership how much for crash knobs and they said $300 + $99 labour to fit them. This seems extortionate to me so I said I'd look elsewhere.

Looking around I can see reasonably cheap ones on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-06-Ka ... ccessories) - but every other set of crash knobs I find seems to involve cutting fairings (which I'm not keen on - and certainly wont attempt myself).

So - does anyone know if these cheap eBay 'no cut' ones work - or do they disintegrate on impact making them worthless? Are there any reputable brands that make 'no cut' knobs and I get them?

...or should I juts bite the bullet and pay the dealership $400 and be done with it?

Thanks! :D

Both of those require fairing cuts...

I'm weighing up the choice of:

1) No sliders at all.... high risk, but affordable and easy!
2) OggyNobs (dealer fitted) for AU$400...
3) LockhartPhillips imported from US @ around AU$100-$120 but then I try and fit them....

tough call....

I have crash knobs on mine and fitted them myself. No cutting as they have brackets and very easy to fit. Can't remember the cost though.

Well I wrote crash knobs but when submitted it just said crash knobs. Don't know what's going on so trying again.

Because its a dirty word round here  ... ask them  so admin has set it up that way after they requested their brand name not be used on the forum.

Wardy, look here for why you can't type the "o" word

I have no-cut crash knobs on my '06 ZX6R. The brand name rhymes with soggy ;)
My pit crew informs me that they were pretty easy to fit

If you get crash knobs and your bike is comprehensively insured, make sure you call the insurance company and add them to the policy (often it won't cost any extra on your premium). Otherwise, they won't be covered if you ever make a claim. And the price of one replacement knob is not that much cheaper than buying the whole set again.
