ZX9 B model cylinder head
Hi, I am on the hunt for a zx9 b model cylinder head!
A bare head be fine even complete be ok
Has any ever had or heard of inside the head just below the head studs cracking or tearing metal away?
unless some wally over tightened the head bolts, i cant understand what may have caused this...
Is this a common problem with these models?
after owning a zx9E1 for 8 yrs and 80000+ kms it was sweet
i have recently purchased a zxr with a b engine in it and unfortunately it has this issue....
anyhow any info be helpful, cheers

Re: ZX9 B model cylinder head
Only heard of head gaskets on the early "B" models being a common issue. Just checking another forum where I read something related.. BRB
EDIT* the head bolts must have been over torqued?

Nah mate, you'll never find a head for one of them, they're rarer than an honest politician, you'd be best off cutting your losses & selling me the bottom end... reeeealllly cheaply

Re: ZX9 B model cylinder head
A ZXR 750 head from 94-95 is identical to the 9B part, while a 91-93 ZXR 750 head will bolt directly up ; only difference, it has slightly larger ports.

Brian

Hey Brian,
Are you saying the ports in the 93 ZXR are bigger than the 9B ports?
Do you know if this would be an improvement for the 900 motor as I have my M1 head sitting around, so maybe I should be fitting that to my 900 motor when I put in the big bore kit?
Cheers,
Heath.

Re: ZX9 B model cylinder head
Yes, that's what I've been told (by a couple of engine builders who worked in GP / WSB / MotoGP). My undertstanding is that current thinking leans towards smaller ports for greater velocity, so not sure if larger ports will work better or not. Beatr in mind that Mr K specified smaller ports for the 9B (and M2).Grievo wrote:Hey Brian,

Re: ZX9 B model cylinder head
I could have a head for sale if needed. It is polished and ported too.
