ZX6 Rebuild

Post by Crackers »

I have the majority of my UK ZX6 in my shed and was wondering if I found an oz-complianced frame and bolted my UK parts to it, can I register it for road use?

Welcome, Crackers ......... you will almost certainly run into trouble with the engine no. not matching anything on record here.
Excellent first post btw
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..
If it's got wheels or tits, it's gonna give you trouble !

Ron is correct in saying that the frame and engine numbers wont match, but there's nothing stopping you doing what you suggest and you shouldn't really run into trouble. What year model zx6r do you have? If you have the UK frame you should actually be able to register it reasonably easily as a privately imported vehicle, but if you don't have the frame an Aus frame will get you out of trouble. Either way you'll obviously need to go through the usual blueslip stuff.

Good luck!

Thanks guys it's a 98 model - I have the frame, but I cant register it here as I didn't own it for more than 12 months before I migrated. Regarding the oz frame, I would need to find out if the bike it came from was written off before I hand over any $$$. If it wasn't then i'll go ahead and rebuild. Worst case scenario (or best depending on how you look at it) is I buy another ZX6 and swap the parts over and sell-off the excess.
