'96 ZX9R Cam chain tensioner guides....

Post by Disco »

I know it's a bit of a long shot....But I was wondering if anybody has any of these in resonable condition they want to part with.....

After opening up the motor on my brothers bike the chain is well within tolerance but the guides are farked :( ...

They are on backorder from kawasaki australia(at least 3 week's) but really need to have the bike back together for a trip at the end of the month.... 8)

May be worth checking if the're the same as ZXR750's sometimes it's the same part with a different number that might be in stock. :kuda:

www.findapart.com.au if that fails might be your best option.

The ticking at idle is normal. Worn guides or cam chain cause a rattle or a grating sound.
Be concerned if there is no ticking at idle as this is generally related to valve clearances and it is the sound of the bucket coming free from the cam lobe. Valve clearance and ticking is good because it indicates that the valves are seating as they should - but each valve should be checked as per periodic maintenace listed in your owners handbook. No ticking may mean that the clearances have closed up and that the valves are not closing completely which is bad MMMKAAY? Burnt valves and carbon deposits on the seat are the result. Not to mention a loss of potential HP.
As for sourcing the guides Try Findapart but be well armed with the genuine part price and don't accept more than 60% of new cost.
