Yoc CAN speed for a week

Post by DMonkey »

Life's journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting ...Holy shit...What a ride!

Minor speeding offenses ONLY are getting warnings. Be careful, if you get caught doing high speeds you will still be booked.

Of course if they are bluffing, or the industrial action is cancelled at the last minute, then this could be construed as a blatant grab for EXTRA funds from those who think they won't be caught. Maybe enough funds to cover the pay rise the police are after (oooh, I'm cynical today).

I gather speed cameras aren't on strike?

Just had a cop pull a guy over out front of work for talking on mobile phone and all he got was a warning. :D

I asked the cop if it was a busy day he said "nah just warnings today" :D

I wouldn't bank on this. I saw two radar traps today. Now I am fairly confident that these police aren't going to say hey nice work 20+ over the limit here's a warning.

Though if someone wants to go and find out otherwise.

Im sure if you are 20+ none of them will say you can have a warning, as nelso said for "minor" offences

This statement....

"The NSW Police Association has called on the 15,000-strong force to protest the impasse by not handing out speeding and other fines in a move that is expected to cost the government $2 million.

Police will be giving cautions to speeders, unless it is considered a serious breach, in which case the people will be put before the courts. "

........................really concerns me. I don;t see how any workforce has the right to basically blackmail the government into doing something. It sounds very much like strong arm tactics to me and smacks of police state! To me, it is one of the most arrogant industrial actions. Right or wrong on the need for a pay rise, blackmail doesn't work for me. If they do it to the government, then doesn't it send a signal that they can do it elsewhere??? Mr. Smith, I know you need your licence for work, how about you slip me $100 each week from your pay and I won't follow you around town, booking you till your points run out!! Drawing a long bow maybe, but it's the same thing on a more grandious scale in my opinion!!! :? :? :?

They do this and everyone cheers but if teachers were to refuse to teach for a week there would be an uproar. How can they get away with not doing their job? Not complaining or encouraging here, just curious as to how they can get away with it.

They're still doing their job. Police ALWAYS have the discretionary power to caution, report or do nothing. No one, including the commissioner, can take that power away. This is probably more akin to a teacher going to work and only teacher maths for a week - which, if they're a maths teacher is probably what they are supposed to be doing anyway. Err, right, back on track then. (Edit - and speaking of teachers going on strike - http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/stor ... 82,00.html)

They aren't saying that they will just drive around and turn a blind eye to offences. They are saying that they won't be raising revenue for a week.

They've been offered 4% which is reasonable - not great, just reasonable and probably fair given the current economic climate. They are happy to accept the 4%. But, they don't want to accept some of the other really crap conditions that the government want them to accept. If you read some of the trade offs the government want, you'd understand why they don't want to accept it.

So, they're happy to accept the pay offer, but not happy to accept the piss poor conditions that the government want to offer. So they aren't going to hand out fines for a week? Hardly the end of the world and certainly no different than a labourer walking off-site for a day.

I'd be interested to see the crash statistic comparison for the week.

A Vic cop got the sack for using too much Discretion though, it was all over the news a few months back.
He was pretty much letting everyone off with a warning :D

Yep. But they still couldn't make him arrest or report anyone. :)

Sounds like he wasn't doing much more than I do on a daily basis.
