Crim/Gumby combo

Post by Dr Phill »

Hi Guys and Gals,

I've had a couple of random thoughts and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice.

I've currently got an 04 Crim and low and behold it's got the flappy taillight syndrome. I figure there's not much point in getting a new OEM ductail as it won't be too long before it suffers the same fate and the taillight mount tabs break and I'm back at square one. I've considered race glass and at the moment it could be on the cards.

however i had a bit of random thought the other day. I love the aggressive lines on the front half of the crim (and it was the lack of this that put me off the Gumby's) but i don't mind the shape of the tail section on either the Crim or the Gumby. First thought was to put the plastics of the 06/07 ductail on my sub frame, but then i thought it may not work as the mounting points won't line up. My next thought was to get a 06/07 sub frame complete with plastics, lights etc and run that on my Crim. Makes it something different (I'm not that worried about resale value as i don't intend on getting rid of it anytime soon, plus I'll be keeping my original setup to put it back if that's the case).

Now my question is this... will a Gumby sub frame mount onto a Crim mainframe? If this is able to be done with relative ease, i just need to work out whether to stick with the side hanging exhaust or to go to the undertail setup...

Thoughts?? Advice??

I just patched mine up with some plastic repair epoxy and it's been fine for a couple of years now, so it really comes down to what look you are after. I think the Gumby tail can look a bit funny without the pipes there, but that's just my opinion.

righto :) I'd been advised by a couple of people that there hadn't really been a successful fixup of the mounts that either of them had seen to date. was under the impression that it wasn't able to be done properly

well....

dont listen to Mick C... hes from canberra

the gumby tail looks awesome without the pipes under there. (mick, think big kev's) check out www.zx-10r.net for some inspiration.

the tail on my crim cracked, after it was replaced, the tabs up the top never cracked agin, but the tailight did got floppy, i glued it back together and it didnt die while i had it. and its new owner is from melbourne so doesnt ride.

the gumby tail on the crim front has been done, not sure ont he details. i always said if i had a gumby, i'd stick a racefit pipe up the side and leave the tail stock. i reckon it looks grouse! 8)
