What oil in my GS500?

Post by tim »

it's gotta be 10W40, but mineral/semi/synthetic and what brand?

I like magnatec in the car - like to think it stops wear when starting up.....

thanks

planning to do the oil change this weekend... along with whatever else is needed to bring the servicing up to date according to the manual

Like Rod said. I've used it in every bike I've had incl the 10 and the 6. It's good stuff. Don't forget the filter

Actually, diesel oil wouldn't be too bad for it. Magnatec, on the other hand, doesn't play nice with wet clutches and should be avoided. I'd stick to Motul 5100.

The GS is an air/oil cooled motor and as such will run at higher internal temps. I would still use Motul 5100 (I've used it in most of my bikes in the last 6 or so years as well as all the others above) but I would go the 10W/50 rather than the 10W/40 to suit yr old diesel twin 500!!!
