cylinder flooding question

I had prior posts regarding my 94 ZX7 firing on 3 cylinders and huffing whitish smoke excessively, after standing for a couple months unridden. It's cold here in the US this time of year.

Well, I discovered my #1 cylinder is being flooded with gasoline and not allowing the plug to fire.... causing the fuel to blow out the exhaust. This continued even after I swapped out the plugs.

Does this sound like a stuck float valve or a fuel pump issue? I've never owned a bike with a fuel pump before. If it seems like a stuck valve, any tricks as to how to "unstick" the valve - short of removing the carb assembly (which looks to be a lengthy task)... thanks Tim

Is your choke on? If so, turn it off.

Check your spark leads as well...

choke was off. I tested the plug wire and the cap I am getting good spark. I tell you, this is the worst problem I ever had with this bike. To date it's run flawless. What I don't have installed is an in line filter. That I need to do.

Sounds like a problem with the float valve to me. Mabye the float has a hole in it and has sunk, so will never turn off the valve. I think you may have to bite the bullet and remove the carbies. Don't worry I have just done this for the first time to fit a jet kit and it looks alot worse than it is. The biggest drama I had was a couple of bowl screws that refused to budge.

Yep sounds like the float aint floating . Either that or the valve seat that the float closes aint closing which you may have to replace.
If it was the fuel pump all the cylinders would be flooding.

good point about the pump.... I should have known.

I pulled all the plugs just now and turned off the garage lights. Seems like the plugs got fouled, although they are brand new. The spark is radial and weak on all plugs, and the bike refused to start. The only thing i think is that when i went to start the bike yesterday, i forgot to remove the rag i had stuffed in the intakes to prevent anything from falling into the carbs - maybe that screwed up the new plugs. I'm getting a better spark from the plug to ground. I'm off to get more plugs.

At least I didn't have a huge slug of gas squirt out of the jug when I tried to fore it as was happening before. I drained the bowl and hit the base of the carb with a hammer against a brass drift ( a suggestion by my local dealer). He thought maybe something was stuck on the float valve and tapping it while the new shot of pressurized gas went into the float valve, it could dislodge any crap keeping iot open. It was worth a shot I figured.

I have to thank you guys for your reading this and offering help. Otherwise, I'd be paying top buck to have my shop correct my problem.

I'll post another message indicating what happens next.... I'll get this damn thing back on it's feet if it kills me!!
