Random gripe

Post by Nosferatu »

Its a beautiful Saturday morning in SE QLD and I'm stuck at work until 1930 tonight, so I thought I would have a little whinge about the cost of various "genuine kawasaki products." I got a bit of cash for my birthday on Thursday, so I went for a bit of a shop around yesterday to (hopefully) get some bling for the bug. Went to the local kwaka dealer to get some prices on various things (I like things), and not only did I nearly have a minor stroke at the prices quoted, but I was also intrigued by kawasaki's fixation with the $300 price tag. This is how it went -

Me - I want to get rid of the worlds ugliest hugger, how much is the nice flash looking green one that kwaka brought out?
Them - $300
Me - Put the gun down, I'll just hand over my wallet!
Them - We could do it for $279
Me - How about the slimline front indicators for the '08?
Them - $300
Me - Faaaaark. Gouge me some more.
Them - Just for you (am I special???) we could do it for $278
Me - Just for shits and giggles, how much would my rear seat cowl have cost?
Them - (there is a theme here) $300

I also asked about various other parts, like rear slimline LED indicators, $90, new visors for my XR1000, ranging from $80 for a clear to around $120 for the iridium (got tinted for $90) etc etc.

FFS, I only want to by some bits of plastic and some little lights, not the whole factory. Am I the only one who is so much of a Scot that I feel we are being bent over and pineappled just because it came in a box marked with a big K? Why can aftermarket companies have the same product for 1/10th the price (yeah yeah, chinese made, it's still bullshite)? And what is with Kawasaki's fixation with the $300 price tag? Or am I just a tight arse?

Anyway, that just passed about 15 minutes for me, only another 8 1/2 hours to go. I might find the oldest posts on the site and post random new comments, just to keep me entertained.
Peace out :kuda: :kuda:

good to see you're hard at work, judging by the posting you've been doing today, it must be a flat out day  :D

Now I'm sorry to say theres a moral to this story :D

Work equals money , money is good to spend i.e. buying bling for your bike
So you go to work earn lots and lots of money then spend it ALL   at Kawasaki spares they love you and so does the government cause you are helping the economy to continue
So be happy they could be charging you double and not offering any discounts

Seriously I'm on your side they shaft us all the time :( maybe on day we will win

If your not scatching or scraping it your not riding it hard enough keep it shiney side up

be mindful that money is going back overseas to line a nice chap in Japan's pockets! But then again they need it to keep bringing us the fabulous products they make! Genuine parts are BS overpriced though!

Gatton actually. The boys down there do a good job, are priced reasonably, and are decent blokes to deal with. Some other dealers aren't. :(
