Track Bike

Post by Ticketyman »

Ok, there comes a time in every mans life when the allure of a track bike gets to much. And as such I would like to propose a few questions. I'm 40 nearly, really nearly, 90kgs fit, and am looking at anything from RS250 up to older 750, don't really want to be spending heaps of dosh straight up and will probably stay away from superbikes. Vfr 400 sounds good, Rs 250 because I love 2 strokes...that being my era when racing motocross flat track etc and 600's, also comes down to what's available ! What do I need to look out for? How much will an average day at the track cost QR ? As I'm forty I'm not looking to break any track records or bin it on a regular basis, just looking to enjoy scuffing up the new alpinestar knee sliders.

Greg

The RS250 is a weapon at the track Greg, they can also make you come unstuck if not careful  they have a tendency to surprise when least expected, they can also be thrashed within an inch of their lives then sold :( :? forget the 400's as the parts are hard to come by & expensive if you can get them... this includes parts for servicing as most are grey imports. Mate I would probably stick with readily available 600's, they are fairly cheap to purchase & parts are readily available from wreckers & off the shelf new... only problem... everyone wants one  . As for what to look out for, its the same as if you were buying a roadie, look for abuse, damage from stacks, bodgie repairs etc...... I would suggest try to get an already converted tracky to save time & money.
Track days seem to be round the $200 mark
Good luck with the search ;)

If ya going to just use as a track bike and not racing it i would look at a 600. You can get a late model one at a decent price and parts are cheap.
Trackdays run about $150 - $175 depending on what day and ya can get discounts if your a member of some forums. Add a few bucks for a jerry can of fuel and an esky with some food and drinks.
As for what to get thats whatever takes your fancy, i know you have had many different brands in your time.

Stay on the gas...maybe you'll save it, maybe you won't, but at least it will end the suspense....

i own a 400 and am planning to race it this year, but im 20 and dont mind spending alot of time in the shed with the bike in bits :) ( rob your right parts are an ass ;) ) the 400's are a great bike, light and nimble, and still has some get up and go.
but for a track day bike to have some fun on, without all the maintenance of an older bike. a 600cc would be my choice of weapon for shore. whats your price range?
anyone can go fast in a straight line,,,,

Buckets. :)

Go kart track fun at Willowbank. The track's being resurfaced at the moment, so nothing happening but there's always Morgan Park and the Lismore race weekends, but not 'till April(?). It's cheaper than track days (even after getting your MA licence).

If you want more info, PM me and I'll give you my phone number.
