2009 Z1000 motor

Post by Disco »

Was just wondering about if the '09 z1000 engine is the same as the previouse models and has there been any major revisions? Am looking towards one of these but don't want another bike with a new generation engine.....Cheers Dave...

its still the same ZX9R based 953cc motor, maybe minor tweaks but i think you'll find its actually the same iteration as 08 so if u can find the change before 08 u will have ur answer...

Yes Six Addict is correct. It is still the same ol 953cc. Except they have made the newer one more..... soft.....
It has smaller throttles but really i think thats about it. Its been revised to be more town friendly, where as the older model is a little more savage on power!!
On paper the engine makes less power and torque and its weights quite a bit more than the older model also!!!

The ZX9R had a 899cc carbie, the z1000 has been bored out by 13.5mm per cylinder and has fuel injection this in turn has given it better low & midrange performance but top end has suffered just a tad (we can Thank Euro 3 stanards for that) with the right suspension setup I'd put my money on a Z1000 any day.
I ride because it's more satisfying. I ride because it's more fun. I ride because my Mum told me not to. I ride because as long as I'm paying attention, it's safer than driving.
