Clunking while taking off?

Post by ventura01 »

Hey all,
Got a problem i need some light shed on....
riding home from wrok this arvo, while lane splitting rather slowly, slipping the cluch in first, I noticed a clunking noise, i could feel it pulse through the cluch lever gently too. I only notice it in first until i change gear. so is this as nasty as im thinking it could be? ie gear box?
any help appreciated

well the chain is regularily lubed and tensioned, still plenty of adjustment left but id say the chain is a couple of years old ive had the bike 6mnths only, it is on my list of things to check after lunch tho.....

Do you get he noise if you have the bike in 1st gear then "very quickly" let the clutch out and pull it back in again ?? Try doing it a few times and see if the noise is there, mine has a similar noise to what you are describing and its not the chain. It just sounds like the gears taking up slack.

It could also be the cush rubbers in the rear wheel
If it is then you can pack 'em out with some old pushbike inner tube rubber

OK, i readjusted the chain and gave it a good lube and the noise has stopped. I tensioned it last week and I may have done it a bit tighter than I usually would have, so now it is a tad looser and the lube helped too I think, I ll keep an eye and ear out incase it does it again, thanks for the tips.
