D.I.Y Fairing painting (Track bikes)

Post by Stereo »

Hi guys,

So I have my track bike and I am planning on painting it myself. Any suggestions/tips/tricks?

What type of paint should I be using by the way? Acrylic Im guessing....

Some parts of the fairings are very close to the engine, will there be a problem with acrylic paint getting heated up?

Also if anyone has seen a good paintjob for a K1 GSXR I would love to copy it!

I reckon if you can find some pics that people took of the putty incident, you'll find a good look for your Suzuki!

heat should affect acrylic paint if you let it harden properly.

2pac is to hard and illegal to apply unless you have the right gear and know what your doing.

most auto paint shops can make the colour you want into pressure pack cans if you do not have a compressor and gun.

Personally I'd keep a trackie as simple as possible. If it goes down you don't want to have a difficult, time consuming paint job to re-do all over again (and again, and again......if that happens)

Arse-ole canz r the go. I ued the compressor, and it's a pain to do even a simple repair. Pick a common-o-garden colour and cover everythign evenly. Cover any nasty looking bits in stickers and your good to go. Probably cheaper than using the acrilic/enamel paints too.

2pak industrial paint even "Wingnut" (mattyV) is turning out work like a pro. Hopefully he may slide up a pick or 3 of his latest "Nana's cottage industries" project.
get at LEASTa 12 foot compressor which u'll need to run all the CHEAPASCHIPS pnumo tools from feebay anyway.
Wax & grease EVERYTHING
Take time with Mixing & straining the paint.
KEY IS GUN SET UP.
the last pit is wrist control.
Nothing comes close to the sense of achievement from doing stuff yourself.

I resprayed my bike recently(gun, acrylic), wasn't too bad although I didn't do a great job on the clearcoat.

You'll be fine with it near your engine etc.

It has a mat black finish at the mo, I might put a couple of blue lines on it and then clearcoat it.... Stickers wont stick at the moment lol.
