Bells line speed limits
Bells Line 80kmh limit 'ludicrous'

AN RTA decision to introduce a maximum speed limit of 80kmh on the Bells Line of Road between Windsor and Lithgow has been condemned as a return to the "horse and cart days".
The road is a popular alternative to the congested Great Western Highway for motorists seeking to cross the Blue Mountains to the Central West.
Councillor John Davis, a member of the Central West Regional Organisation of Councils, said the reduced speed was ludicrous.
"Cars and trucks are much safer, have better tyres, better brakes and better road handling and drivers are more educated in knowing how to drive safely," he said. "It's like a return to the horse and cart days."
Cr Davis said the slower speed would create frustration and force drivers to take risks. "If it is a plan to force drivers onto the Great Western Highway, then the people in Blue Mountains towns like Glenbrook, Blaxland, Lawson, Leura, Katoomba and Blackheath should be up in arms.
"[And] it shows the RTA has no idea and really does not care for people living west of Lithgow who face an extra 30 minutes on their trips if they use the Bells Line."
An RTA spokesman said: "Between 2001 and 2007, 12 people were killed and 493 injured while travelling on the Bells Line of Road and these figures show that a speed reduction is needed to improve safety along the 72 kilometre route."
In the latest accident last Thursday, two people were killed in a crash at Kurrajong. Opposition roads spokesman Duncan Gay said: "We understand speed limits coming down in built-up and suburban areas but reducing speed zones because the Government has failed to maintain a safe standard is unacceptable

Re: Bells line speed limits
Unfuckinreal, I told my missus this was coming....... The acco was in a 60 zone, the friend of the son of a doctor at Sues hospital. He had been on P's for two weeks and went into a corner to fast and crossed to the other lane and cleaned up a car coming the other way.
Cops and ambo guys closed the road for hrs.
It's a great shame if they reduce the speed further along as this is an enjoyable road even at legal speeds and can more fun at above.

Re: Bells line speed limits
Shit, there goes where i was planning to do a few runs, seriously. I mean theres enough coppers on the putty, old road and even heading through the nasho. almost never saw any aside from the local in his landy (and if you saw it at the station you knew you were sweet, at least for the outbound trip). Now i wonder how many highway units will be hiding in the treetops along there now </cynic>

Re: Bells line speed limits
1. Speed limit set at arbitrarily low limit.
2. Someone crashes either through a lack of talent or a surplus of ego
3. Speed limit reduced further because CLEARLY it is not safe.
4. Profit

Re: Bells line speed limits
saw not one cop on sunday.
the road remains 100km/h between the weighbridge and just west of the Mt Wilson turn-off, but that's it. There are no 100 zones before that.
Around the Fruit Bowl is a 60km/h zone.
Wasn't a great run over, but that could have been due to the Honda Riders constant whinging about the new limits.....

Re: Bells line speed limits
Oh, on the weekend I noticed a new 70 zone on Nebo/Glorious that I don't remember having been there before. May be wrong, though, as it's been a while.
