'05 ZX10R Stick Coils
Since the 10 is now out of warranty, in a drunken stupor on Staurday night I decided I would service the bike myself instead of some dumb fuck apprentice.
All was going well until I got to removing the 2 outer stick coils. How the fuck do you remove 5-6 inches of coil with only 2-3 inches of headroom?
Is there some sort of trick?
Whilst I eventually got them out, I thought I was going to break them as they flexed. Getting them back in was just as big a prick.

Maybe you should ask a dumb fuck apprentice
Sorry old son couldn't resist.
Never tried it myself but I have heard that it is a bastard. No doubt its worse with a couple of frothies under your belt
Don't know if it makes any diff to your circumstance but I've heard that you need to drop the radiator off to do the plugs thus a service with plugs is a chunk dearer.
Good luck

you gotto remove the engine mounts. that gives you a little bit more room. but yeah also nee to remove the radiator
when i got mine done at Aitkens, they joked (quite seriously) about dropping the engine down to make it easier.

Yerp, had to remove the engine mounts and drop the radiator down (but I didn't completely remove it, that would have been a PITA). Might as well do the shims while you're there ...

we pulled fireyrob's 07 model coils out, no worries. had the side engine mounts off but didnt drop the motor or the radiator.
more room on the 06-07 frame.

Yep, the '07 model you don't require to take the engine mounts off at all, you can get the coils and sparkplugs out without removing them. I did it a few months ago on my '06. FYI, the radiator drop on the '04 was actually to get access to the cam cover as the heat barrier locks into the radiator mounts.Wattie wrote:FuTAnT wrote:Yerp, had to remove the engine mounts and drop the radiator down (but I didn't completely remove it, that would have been a PITA). If you are just doing spark plugs, you shouldn't have to do it. When you do the shims, that's another story. Did the shims on the '04, but couldn't be arsed on the '06, despite not technically being due anyway.

Re: '05 ZX10R Stick Coils
those stick coils are just a marketing ploy - the best option is to hose-clamp a couple of good old GT40R coils under the frame each side ! way easier to service...
