Considering a sanity pad...

Post by MrWasabi »

Well, the missus and i had the afternoon to ourselves today so we went down to Sydney City to have a look at some bikes for both of us...
She has her heart set on the hoonda CBR125R, being short and stout (god i hope she doesnt read this) it was a perfect fit for her.

I however was on the other side admiring the new ZX6R :supz:

Anyways he later explained to me that while this was an ex display and had over 2000ks on the clock, i could get a bran new 08 CBR600RR for less than the ZX6...

Now i love Kwakas, but this offer is too tempting to pass out... Maybe Mel and I can start an ex kwaka now hoonda rider club :D

Anyways real reason for this post is that i would appreciate anyone with some knowledge in the Honda area to give me some tips, things to look out for, are they reliable, servicing costs and maintenance cost etc...

Edit: just saw a vid review...doesnt look too bad...http://au.video.yahoo.com/watch/2706749/7890939

If you don't mind me asking just how cheap is the CBR? Either they're fooling themselves on the Kwaka demo or Honda is up to it's old tricks of dumping bikes at ridiculous prices and completely fucking the resale price for anyone who paid something like retail price for theirs. I'd never buy a new Honda for this reason alone.

An example might look something like this: 08 CBR600RR retailed at $14,990 in March 2008. Dude buys one and 12 months on expects (reasonably) it to be valued at $12K - his 12 months of ownership cost him $2.5K. But the local Honda dealer was (is) selling runout CBR600RRs at $12K + ORC, meaning old mate's 12 month old POS is now worth $10K tops and it's cost him $5K to own a POS Honda for a year.

I'm sure having a shiny new bike feels good, but I'd much rather a second handy where someone else has copped the worst of the depreciation hit too.

good points there Dave. I had thought about the depreciation, but to be honest, i aim on keeping this one for quite some time, so i dont expect to get much in return when i do sell it.
Like a holden, as soon as you have signed the paperwork it has dropped 5k in value and you havent even driven it.

I considered second hand, i was actually looking at second hand, but like i said, the dealer told me about this deal and it sounded pretty good. reflecting on what you said, i can see why its such a good deal.

Red_dave, hmmm interesting link you got there :D
will check out ;)

Noone has pointed this out yet but I guess I will, it's Sanitary pad, not sanity, although it's probably marginal if you're thinking about buying a HOnda..
