Anyone been following the AMCN ZRX1200?

Post by bonester »

Apparently AMCN got a ZRX1200 for a log termer recently and have been doing some mods along the way. I only heard about this last week and have managed to score the last two issues. Last issue they found that a Factory Pro jet kit for $219 was worth 13kW!!!!! ( I make that 17.5Hp) Stock pipe, stock airbox. I rang Mick Hone today and ordered the kit. They said there is a dearer kit that makes even more power but airbox mods are required. Not interested there with a bike in warranty.
I found some other AMCN articles on the ZRX on the Aussie Kawasaki website. More info on the carburation was three issues ago, which I haven't been able to get. Does anyone have a copy or know if it can be seen on the web somewhere? TIA. :D
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

Kewl. Ta.
BTW I wonder how dyno mobs measure oxygen content as a measure of rich/lean- bikes like the ZRX have a air injection system into the exhaust as part of the pollution gear. Surely that must fart with their readings?

Hi Bonester,

I have it right here, I can take it to work tomorrow and scan & email it to you, just pm me your email addy.

I've a kerker pipe on my 05 which came with a dynojet jet kit. I had it dyno'd at the flywheels dyno day earlier this year and came a way with 128.1hp & 118ft/lb, Phil did a touch better with his, which I think is an 03 model, with the same mods (back then).

I saw the long termer at the GP expo and it now sports a set of keihin flatslides which, btw, look shit hot, along with a new full exhaust system.

Cheers
Matt

118ft-lbs, I don't think so  For comparison my 2008 zrx1200 dynoed after full akra system and factory stage 1 kit..with air box snorkle removed was 132.09 hp and max torque 87.40 ft-lbs maybe Iam missing something here. Hey bonster if your looking for bang for your buck then my mods would be difficult to beat, although I did buy my akrapovic system when the Aussie dollar was around 98 cents :D had one landed at my door step for around $1100.00... timing is everything. I know your fairly local, so don't forget the guys at startline motorcycle Springwood to setup your bike if you decide to go with the stage one stuff, they are very, very good. Ohlins shocks should arrive tommorrow might even post a pic, should look horn.

I believe that these figures are questionable cause of the dyno at flywheels!!!! All figures are at the crank.
The dyno broke down soon after.

I have been following it also, waiting for them to get stuck into some mods proper like.
Gotta say the pipe they have on it looks like UTTER CRAP. If its not the ugliest pipe I have ever seen on a ZRX. Accounst for why I have never seen another one on a ZRX or any other bike for that matter.

checked the dyno chart tonight, and yes, torque in Nm and measured at the crank.

FWIW, I quite like the Moriwaki they've sourced for the long termer, though not as much as my Kerker, reminds me of this sort of thing

Hey Matchan,
Well as you know I have a Kerker Meg bias also 8) .
(zrex1200au on KNRA)
But that thing looks like a Hotdog off a car bolted to the bike with no thought how it looks, IMO :)

Yep, it appears there temp sensor shat itself after the first few runs so everything after that is an unknown.
We'll have some more accurate results after this wekeend at TJ's.. Phil is bringing his rex up for a run I believe..

I cant believe the diff the jet kit made to the zrx..

if you own a zrx I would be doing the jet kit pronto..I mean thats a proven +18hp without doing much at all, not to mention the torque !!

parrently they run real real lean to meet emission controls... put less fuel in i guess u get less unburnt fuel out... as there's hardly enough fuel to burn in the first case... hence the story about gaining hp with the choke on
