What do you use to clean the wheels

Post by Cube »

Is there a particular product you guys use to clean the wheels apart from soap and water. These wheels fitted to my bike have not seen the light of day for several years, I have cleaned them with a silicone spray but the grain like appearance is filled with road grime, what do I use to remove it?

Lately I've been using brake cleaner and a rag. I used to use the orange oil (Orange Power or something similar) from SuperCheap but found it left a bit of wheel-coloured paint on the cleaning rag. There are commercial mag wheel cleaners available but some say specifically that they're not for use on motorcycle wheels.

White Spirit will desolve the oils & ingrained grease without affecting the paint or clearcoat & CT18 (not as a concentrate) will do the rest, just keep it away from bare alloy ;)

oh and dont spray it on the wheel, spray it on the rag and wipe, last thing you want on your brake rotors is INOX or WD40 :P

Try Turtle wax tar and bug remover.
I have polished rims to and after Motogp my rims where shot.
This stuff removed all the tar.

White Spirit........ I first got the tip from a BMW dealership that would use WS to remove Tar from the duco.... it will not effect the bare alloy.

I used to use Motul's chain cleaner on both the chain and the wheels.
Worked like a charm, worked better than WD40 - probably very similar to Dave#3's brake cleaner

Spray'n'wipe... seriously! I've found it's great as it's designed to break through kitchen grime & oil spatters/spills... but not damage touchy painted surfaces, laminex, etc... it's great!
