Re: New Z Member!
hey Saki
how do you rate the z1000 compared to the zx6 you had?
do you find it has plenty of poke
what about the handling compared to the 6?
i know they are completly different styles of bikes etc but just curious what you think so far.
I am considering buying a 2nd hand z1000 at the moment (last bike was an 05 zx6) so i am interested in any opinions.
thanks

Power is different on the Z, but there is just heaps more of it! The Z makes more low down power so its good for every day riding, which is usually 95% of riding to me anyway, The Zx6 i jumped on after the 250, so obviously was a bit of a shock, but now i look back the 6 u really did have to rev up a bit to get to the good bits, where as the Z pretty much just comes on straight away with similar power to the ZX9. I had a ZX9 as can see form my sig below and i would have to say i perfer the Z to a 9!
The reason i sold hte 10 to opt for a Z1000 was i was bit sick of the labouring chugging around town, i used to take it out to quiet country areas for a blast often, but to hit the fun spot is to dam fast for the road!
Plus i wanted a change of scenary, i have only had Ninjas basically all my life and wanted to get more of a streetfighter.
Handling, is crazy, it steers alot like the 10 did, except now i have straighter renthal bars on the Z so it turns pretty dam quick. I have to say all in all, i am really happy with the swap, the Z isnt as fast as the 10, but thats ok, because in the corners its fun to hang off the side!
Show me hte specs of ya Z1000 that you are looking at, i would opt for the 03-06 rather than an 07-08 thats just me tho, i like the looks better.
But as a bike u have to live it, its good, i usually potter around in 3rd or 4th everywhere doing 60km's. Its pretty shit on fuel atm, cause i have twin Yoshi TRS with the baffles out, but fingers crossed PC3 turns up today! fix that a bit.
On the topic of Yoshi's it sounds like no other bike i have heard, out on the track everyone could pick my bike cause it has this really aggresive thump to it, it doesnt have that buzz like other bikes its just an angry leviathan sound! haha
Overall, love the thing, does eveyrthing i want, looks good, goes well, handles well, HEAPS of useable power, like i said not as much power as the 10, but you sure get to use the power on the Z more which makes it more fun IMO. My suspension is a bit soft still, but i almost have it at a good point.
Next trick is white paint job!

Re: New Z Member!
thanks saki
i appreciate the feedback.
im leaning towards a naked bike rather than a full fairing bike as i want to try keep the speed down a bit out on the roads cause my license is pretty critical these days (previously i have access to public transport)
I reckon the wind blast from the the lack of fairing would be a good indicator that im speeding
whereas on a faired bike its pretty easy for the speed to get away on you with out realising quite how fast im doing.
From what you are saying it sounds like the z1000 is the go in regards to power delivery. 95% of my riding would now be on the road where as with the 6 it was mainly on the track with a few road trips here and there.
I have seriously considered a zx9 or even a zx12 but i think i would probably get myself into trouble just as easy on one of those as i would on a 10.
So it sounds like im looking for a late model z1000
thanks again for the feedback

Seriously its a good move and you wont be disappointed! Sometimes i miss the big power of the 10, but i think i like it for all the wrong reasons.
The 9 was good, but the Z looks better IMO and the 12 as a daily is just to big and eats up resources to much ie; tyres, petrol etc etc.
I hit about 210 on the Z and the wind starts to get to you a bit , but then think, why go that fast ? I dont think u will be upset with a Z i seriously think u will like it

thats what i think too (sorry to all the 9 lovers out there).Saki wrote: The 9 was good, but the Z looks better IMO and the 12 as a daily is just to big and eats up resources to much ie; tyres, petrol etc etc.
having said that though if a low k's 02/03 nine pops up at the right price before a z1000 does i might grab it for a year or so till my situation is better and i can afford to spend more money again.

Re: New Z Member!
yeah i got lucky with my Z and picked it up HELL cheap, keep an eye out something decent will come around, most 9's of that year are a tad bit cheaper than Z1000 of the 03 vintage, but if something good comes along, snap it up!MrStompy wrote:thats what i think too (sorry to all the 9 lovers out there).Saki wrote: The 9 was good, but the Z looks better IMO and the 12 as a daily is just to big and eats up resources to much ie; tyres, petrol etc etc.
