ZZR 250 Fuel Range

Post by rooster89 »

Hey guys. I tried a search but didn't come up with anything. Just wondering how many km's i should be able to get out of my 99 zzr 250. I heard from someone who had one they were only getting 220 but that doesn't sound right? Correct me if i'm wrong.

Thanx in advance.

Unless you're running WOT (wide open throttle) all day, you should get close to 300km out of the 16L main. It's all going to depend on how you ride it.

I had a 2000 GPX250R (same motor) and I used to get around 30km/l. That was a mostly highway speeds...

Mind you after an hour or so you had a numb arse from the stock seat and tingling hands from the motor reving it's guts out  .

We've got Michelin Road Activ's on Mrs Tree's bike. I rode it at Christmas and got rid of some of that pesky rubber on the egdes for her. They held up great, never felt like letting go. :D

I used to get about 320 out of mine before going to reserve. Mainly at 100kmh highway speed.

Ok thanx i'll look into them. Yeah i guess i'll find out the fuel economy properly when i start riding, but 300 sounds better than 200 haha

you have a reserve tank that should get you 25-40km at least. so i say you ride it until it starts to sputter (is that even a word?) then switch to reserve and go to your nearest servo. this will give you the best indication of how many K's your bike can do on one tank.

While most here report 300km, last time i did the above test, it only lasted me till 280. As has been mentioned it depends on riding style and also how well tuned your bike is.

As for tyres, i can vouch for the Pilot Activs they are a good tyre for the little beast, im running a 140...or 130...i cant remember... rear on mine

Depends on how you ride it.
'Highway' speeds between riders vary, and when in the city it depends on if you gun it from the lights to stay ahead of traffic or just cruise along.
On my old GPX250 (same engine as the ZZR) I'd get 280 before hitting reserve when commuting from Gosford to North Sydney. When riding the putty I got about 180 before reserve ;)

As suggested above, ride it till you need to switch to reserve and see how much you get with your own riding.

I ran Arrowmax's on the GPX and they were ok. Nothing special, but you don't have a lot of choice either.

My bike is standard ZZR250 1993 model. I ride regularly to and from work totalling around 80 Kms a day, my average tank range is 350 before reserve. I use unleaded fuel and 10 mls of Pro-Ma Petrol Treatment, that seams to work a treat.

Cheers

Hi, i commute each day in Syd now, (fuel prices killed my car) and my 2003 ZZR 250 has coasted off my exit on the M2 (loosing power and stalling) with 424Km from last fuel stop, flipped the fuel and sneaked into the Woolies, for a $24 fill up. I use the high octane stuff and top the tank right up for a weeks worth. I ride very, very conservatively though, short-shifting and gradual take-off but out of harms way when required. Am not game to rev the guts out of it or test the reserve ( aprox 50 kms) without a fuel-can on back :). Couldn't be happier with the savings. Hope it helps.
Thanks
