06-07 zx10r akrapovic exhaust help needed
Have just put on a akrapovic bolt on exahust for the 07 zx10r.
Ive heard that the bike may need to be tuned or chipped with a new exhaust. Although the akrapovic website says that the exhaust does not require any further modifications to the bike to give it the power curve described on the site, which essentially was a slight increase in power below 6k rpm and greater preformance above this. However, upon riding the bike, it seemed like it had less eagerness down low and was more passive that the stock pipe below 5000 rpm.
Just wondering if anyone has put this pipe onto the 06/07 model 10r and what they have discovered about the pipe and what makes it go better.
Not exactly into racing the bike so im not really looking for massive preformance high range for significant sacrifices low range.
Any advice/wise words would be appreciated.
Thanks

I put a two brothers pipe on my 07zx6r and lost heaps down low installed one of their juice boxes to help get more fuel and made a huge difference.Maybe you should invest in a power commander (pcIII)....

I had the carbon fibre akra slip ons on my gumby and to be quite honest I didnt notice that much difference but I did install them with a Gi Pro TRE.
in short you wont need to remap the ecu if you have only added slip ons.

looking at the torque graph off the website there at 2k rmp the akra pipe has half the torque. only after 3000 rpm the power/torque is higher. This area is of no real significance to racers as you are never at such low revs but on the road and through town its sad to lose what little bottom end the bike already hasBlurr wrote:I had the carbon fibre akra slip ons on my gumby and to be quite honest I didnt notice that much difference but I did install them with a Gi Pro TRE.

I've had the Akra carbon cans on since new. Could not tell you how is rode without them, as I never did. I always felt the bottom end was weak, so I installed an Ivans TRE with gear indicator - way better bottom end. Then go down 1 tooth at the front and it'll feel like you added another 10hp(it's not like you need to go 160 in 1st anyway).
I do not have a PCIII, and probably never will. Were I to have one of these for the track, I would put a full race exhaust system, and then PCIII - on the road I just don't see the need. It's not like I use all of the available 170+hp it has now.

remove the cat for the biggest gains, have an exhaust shop make you a mid pipe and you will pick up good hp... However you will then need a pc3 and a good custom tune.
I have a full system with a dynojet tune, i had a custome tune and netted 153hp ( up 4hp over the dynojet map) at the rear on a conservative Dynamics dyno...i was more than happy.....Thanks again con

from the US they are around 300-350 USD... unfortunately our dollar just slid under 70 US cents.... so you're almost better off buying here...
someone will know the AUD price but i'd think around 500

get a PC 3 makes a big difference when tuned, my mate just got one for his gen2 and with the akro bolt ons it made good gains in both tourqe and hp through the entire rev range, and throttle response is awsome, he cant stop raving about it.
I used to have a grip on life but it sliped
