Site nOOb.

Post by Daino »

Hi people,

Names Dain and I am new to the site. Got a ZZR250 (bought the bike before I even had my L's!) and it was an awesome bike to learn on. Am a Mature Age rider (only just - 31yo) and had to sell my baby last November after just getting off my L's. Was bikeless for a short time but picked myself up a ZZR1100 (stuck with the ZZR family) and it is awesome. Have put some bar risers on it, Starcom Intercom, Oxford heated grips, lambswool, ventura bag etc... Love it!

Good to meet you all. Safe riding. :D

Welcome to KSRC. :D

I made the same transition as you; ZZR 250 - ZZR 1100. Helluva jump hey?! I spent 2 1/2 years on the 250, though, before upgrading, clocking up around 30k km's.

When you're ready for it, the best mod you can do to the 1100 is the axle flip. Makes the big girl turn in sooooooooo much better. It also raises the seat about 20mm and makes it fun putting it down on the side stand. Probably best to leave it 'til you get used to the weight of the big girl. I've dropped mine 3 times, all static. :(

Enjoy! :D

Hey thanks!

yeah what a step it was! It wasnt the power so much that got me - it was the weight of the thing!! So many times the Mrs has to push me back out of a parking spot etc... funny sight. These things really should have reverse on them!

Had mine since June and havent dropped her yet. Come close though!

What is the axle flip.... Im curious...

If you look at the rear axle, you'll notice the axle sits in a cam. This is so you can tension / loosen the chain. On a standard set-up, the axle is in the top half of the cam.

With the axle flip, you spin the cam through 180 degrees, putting the axle in the lower half of the cam. This lifts the back of the bike about 30mm. This, in turn, changes the rake of the forks, making them sit steeper, giving the bike better turn-in.

I spent more than a year on my bike with the standard set-up before someone told me about the flip. I couldn't believe the difference! I'll never go back now.

As I said, though, you're probably best getting used to the size / weight of the big girl first, before you raise the seat and make the bike turn quicker. If you're struggling to move it around now, just wait 'til the seat's 20mm HIGHER!! I used to be able to flat-foot it with both feet, but now I'm on the balls of my feet.

My last drop cost $4k; new R/H mirror and pipe, both pieces of the front guard and loads of Harlequin paint at $1500/L!!!

Thank God for insurance!! ;)

Hey thanks for the tip!!

I was looking at the cam setup last weekend and thinking I should be tightening the chain a little... I might wait a few more months and then have a go at the swapsie.

I am going on the Snowy Ride in Nov, and am used to the feel of the girl at the moment, so I dont want to go screwing around with the handling just yet...... but maybe when I get back! Yeehaa~!

Hi and welcome.. hello.gif

I have to admit the first thing I thought of was the huge jump ! .. But after reading your conversation with cookeetree (great advice by the way!)
You seem to have things in hand..

Keep your head.. and get some comfortable kms under your belt..

Happy trails
