Newbie... Bought 1st bike

Post by FTOSam »

Hey guys...

Just bought a Black Ninja 250 (Demo model with 500km for $6,900 on road)

Live in brisbane and have never riden a bike before.. (Rode scooter for about 18 months so am used to people merging ontop of me)

Couple of quick questions... I have no bike license.. but have had open car license for 2or 3 years now (22y.o.)

Is the process:
- Go to QT and do L test
- Have Ls for 12 months
- Pass Practical Test
- Have RE license for ? Months
- Pass Some test
- Open License

Is that right??

Is there any way to skip straight to RE? I dont want someone following me all the time on my Ls.. feel like im 16 again...

Nice club you've got here... will definately stick around...

Wouldnt mind doing exhaust etc... Will search around for info on upgrades...

Thanks
Sam

if your 30 or over you can get mature age excemption which means

go for your L's, when you pass them go straight back to the rta and book in for your P's course .
there is no time frame in which you have to be on your L's for.

once you have passed the 2 half day P's course you can go back to the rta the next day if you like and get your open licence
but remember when you go and get your open licence you have to ask for the mature age excemption or they wont give it to you.

you dont ask you dont get basically.

Welcome to KSRC and congrats on the new bike.

Go do a Q-Ride course. This is how Mrs Tree and I first got our licences. I'm pretty sure that, even with the new licencing laws (mandatory 250 for 12 months), you can still do it this way. Give Pro Honda Rocklea a call and check. Great place to do the course.

Don't forget to buy gear, if you haven't already done so, and wear it always. Remember - ATGATT - All The Gear All The Time.

PM sent.

Yeah what Cookie said, do Q ride, there's heaps of places that do it, the bike shop you got it from may be able to offer you a discount?
Sorry Gazza, but QLD and NSW are different.

There's no age exemption in Qld, you will have to ride a 250 for 12 months.

Definately going to book in for a Q-Ride...

Getting a couple of mates with bikes to show me the basics till then so i dont look like a tool...

want to get a little bit of quiet road practise in first then do a Q Ride..

Also, will be transfering my license to NSW to avoid alot of the shitty laws... hehehe

Im fine with a 250... its all i need...

If i want to go fast, i've got my car..

And being a noob to bikes, is mine a ZXR? or what?

Do a search through the forums. A few pics of Ninja 250R's with different pipes and fender chops!
