Dead ZXR

Post by kevindinho »

Hi all!

I am having some issues starting my ZXR250, I haven't had the time to take the bike out for two to three weeks so the battery was dead. So i used a jump starter pack to start it up; the bike lights up yet it wont start. Any ideas? could it be just a simple battery replacement or something more serious?
When i grow up i want a ZX6R just like Rob Racer...

zxr250's can be a real pain to start at the best of times, especially in the middle of winter with a dead battery....

Can you clutch start it?

Step #1, if the electrics crank when you hit the button, drain the carbs and start again.

If you've flooded it then choke off, WOT, crank the throttle for 4-5 seconds, repeat a couple of times and hopefully it'll clear with a nice healthy backfire :)

Seriously though, draining the carbs is step #1 if it wont kick over.

You don't say if the starter is cranking or not ??
If not, check the kill switch or the side stand switch.

cranking as in making that sound before the engine starts up? everything seems normal besides the battery being flat. When i use the jump starter the lights etc come on, i press the ignition button and it just makes the sound but the engine does not start :(

Hi Kevin!
U last posted a few days ago, so I hope u fixed ur problem.
If not, try this........
#1. Turn key 2 start
#2. DO NOT touch throttle
#3. DO NOT touch choke.....leave it off
#4. with or without jump starter, press ur start butten....keep it down ( starting ) for a few seconds, whilst cold it shouldnt start......so it's turning over....this should clean ur carbs
#5. Now choke on, throttle a few time's and start her up
This almost always works 4 me ......when she has sat around 4 a while...
Good luck!!!!!!!

You should prob take your battery out and charge it properly. A jump start pack could exceed the the usual alternator charging and protected voltage and become unregulated and spike... Zapping protective circuitry. (fuses, diodes etc). A host battery is a higher voltage than the 1 getting charged... ;)
