NOSing a ZX12R

I want to put NOS on the 12, anyone done it ? where from ? how much ?
Have got Alex from LAE getting back onto me for a Muzzy Stealth Kit.
Looking for anything, advice, ideas etc.

Not really, I had a talk to Alex last time I was there, the blue turboed NOS 12 was there, then I had a talk to Jamie Bezzina and he said definitely go NOS first as its only mad when you hit the button whereas turboes are mad ALL the time. Its a stealth kit so no visual clues and lets face it power corrupts but a little more is always nice. Yes I do love corners more than straights and anyone can go fast in a straight line but it would be nice for the odd strip run as well as a nice little suprise for the boys on the new R1s and Gixxers.
Oh but you are right, I AM nuts. ;)

I hope you like rebuilding your engine ever few thousand Ks. Why in Gods name would you want to do this???
Not enough horse power!!! If you want to drag it ... yes. Street use why???

when i brought the 12r all my family and friends asked the question WHY SUCH A POWERFUL BIKE new_Eyecrazy.gif i told them i like the look, comfort and the hp had nothing to do with it ;) i've had it now for just under 6 mths and still don't know why the revs red line at 11,500rpm as i still haven't gone past 8,500rpm :shock: was going along thunderbolt way in 6th sitting on 260kph :supz:

I'm with ya Frogster - have been thinking about a dry NOs setup on the MFP12 for *ages* now....

Couple of things - the dry NOS is way cheaper, but apparently a bit harder to set up properly ? Not sure why......I have a mate down here who is setting up his Busa on wet NOS, it will cost him upward of 2 large (when a dry kit can be had for about $400 from RatedR in WA) - old mate reckons that the wet kits can be tuned with a lot more accuracy ???

Anyway, have a look at the zx12r.org site in the US, and search for the nitrous threads - there are *heaps* of them.

A stealth set-up sounds great !! :twisted: - I now regularly hit the rev-limiter on the street in 3rd, and 4th gears... :lol: :lol: :lol: , 5th is only a matter of time.......so a shot of laughing gas won't be too hard to cope with I reckon !

Keep us posted on your progress mate, I will keep my eye out for any decent info and pass it on ....

Frog after you decided not to part with rambadam i went and found a crashed 12 to play with, it turned out to have a bent selector fork so i pulled it down and ended up giving the motor a touch up.... 6 or 7 grand later its finally back in the bike running and i am planning on a turbo or NOS a few have recommended the muzzy stealth kit, though its only a 40 horse kit??
the turbo doesnt have the on going cost of bottle refills and makes huge horseys

For starters, it's NITROUS, not Nos! Nos is simply a nitrous brand that flooded the riceboy car market in Fast & the Furious! :lol: :roll:
The dry nitrous kits are a poor man's setup as they are flawed.
You will at least need a fuelling computer (PC3 is fine) to allow for the sudden lean surge when the nitrous is injected. When you are riding without the nitrous being injected, your bike now has a very boggy/ rich fuel table = poor rideability.
If you activate your dry kit at say 6,000rpm and accidentally hit rev-limit (which is a fuel cut rev limit), your engine will have a massive lean-out & instantly destroy itself.

You can get nitrous controllers/ computers that have a specific fuel map when the nitrous is injected but can be expensive to buy & setup.

The wet kit is a much safer option as you can tune a perfect air-fuel ratio by using different sized fuel & nitrous jets.
You generally need an upgraded fuel pump to supply the extra fuel for the additional fuel line.

All this aside, your engine wasn't designed to have an instant 20+% torque increase and rods, crankshafts and pistons will all be compromised.

I'd be going a turbo kit & having the engine built with all the associated hardware to make it last. ;)

This is the sort of info I wanted and sadly confirms what I have heard elsewhere. Alex was going to richen the top up, it has a PC3, but as you say its a compromise at best.
I also had serious concerns about the life of the crank etc. coping with an instant 40-50HP shot (you can get up to 70 out the Muzzy Stealth System chuffed, I think just different injectors :shock: ) and it costs more again for the Schnitz progressive controller which would have to be the go to save the motor.
Ah well, just going to have to twist harder I guess. 8)

Considering NOS also stands for Nitrous Oxide System, I think the term can still be applied regardless of brand. After all that is what you're talking about fitting to the bike ;)

The brand name is Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS for short). It's under the Holley umbrella.

i have the muzzy 40 shot on mine, works well, very basic setup, anyone could do it, i just switch maps on mine between work and play, the only thing ive noticed so far is the strain on the standard clutch
