99 zx6 vs 99zx9 seating position

Post by GlennB »

Im thinking of selling my car and using my bike for sole transportation but its a 99zx6 and can be a little uncomfortable on it on long distances.
I was wondering if the 99zx9 has more of an upright seating position on it, or is the same? I want a bike that I can still fang on track days and I can almost do a clean swap from the 6 to the 9.
Cheers

Pretty much the same mate. The '99 zx9r has the clip-ons above the triple clamp instead of below, but they're angled down instead of up, so they're about the same .... the 9r might even be a bit further to reach. I don't think you'll get anything more comfortable than the late 90's 6 or 9 that's anywhere near as sporty ... even the later 9's are a bit more aggressive with the clip-ons below the triples.

I think it's time to HTFU :D

Are they? I'm pretty sure you'll find they're mounted below the triple clamps, but they do sit up. The C series 9 has the clip-ons above the triples sitting down.

My nine's an 02, and the clip ons are definitely mounted below the triple. It's still really comfy.

Why not just get a Harley and be done with it :D. In all seriousness, if it's only clip-on height that's causing you grief what about either a set of heli bars or a mx bar conversion.

Ok ok speak to me, are there cheap options to comfort my ride? I don't under stand the clip on height thing, please explain and all I want is, if I can have a more comfortable ride from my bike (or a zx9) for my traveling and be able to still be good for a fang for a track day. :D I do find this bike fairly comfortable buy wouldn't mind being a little more up right, not a huge deal though.
cheers

Helibars lift the clip-ons:
1 1/2" Taller
1/2" More Rearward
1/2" Wider Overall

Have a look at http://www.helibars.com/proddetail.php?prod=HB4009b for more details.

Another alternative might be the mx bars:
Replace your top triple clamp with a comfort-kit yoke. Nice and upright, good leverage, like crossing your zx6 with a z750.

Have a look at http://ausfr.com.au/cart/shopexd.asp?id=147 for more details.

Oh & Toss a Lambswool seat cover on it as well. Makes a big difference on longer rides. Should also Freak the fully Sik Gixxer boys out at the trackdays as well. ;)

thankyou :D
The helibars look like what I am looking for. but i couldnt see any for my 99, the ones you posted are for the 00. I guess if i cant find these for my model it gives me a reason to go the 9 or even maybe go a '04' 10  if i can find a cheap one.
Thanks again

i thoroughly recommend the E series 9. It even comes in the same colour as your old one if you are keen on that.

Not that i can compare too much, as its the only 9 i have ever owned, but i have to say, it's a great bike :P

I think the '00 zx6r helibars will fit your '99 zx6r.
