Calling ZXR750J Owners

Post by Bogan »

Anyone out there with a green, blue and white ZXR like mine? We're going to be painting soon and any help I can get with getting the right blue/green/white areas on the side covers will be appreciated. The nose cone and lower fairings look reasonably simple, but the side covers not so much.

Measurements probably would be handiest, or some tracing paper templates, but any other tips about getting the lines in the right place will help.

I think the blue comes too far down on mine at the moment, but with all sorts of photos being taken from lots of different angles it's hard to know what's right and wrong.

Where are all the closet professional painters on the forum?

The picture at the bottom left is what I'm after:

Just saw this thread, so here is a copy of a PM I sent to Bogan, just in case it may help out someone else too....

Hello,

Here are a couple of pics that may help you out... I will need to explain where a few measurements came from though, as I thought it was the easiest way to measure...

Image

Ok, where to start... I'll work left to right, top down...
1/ 125mm from centre of top fairing bolt to the end of blue and start of white. This was measured with the fairing on the bike, 90' to the floor. I measured it on my other one that isn't on the bike from the bolt to square of the line and it measures about 115mm from memory.
2/ 115mm bottom corner of blue stripe to the start of the green stripe. This was measured to where the green stripe starts on the underside of the fairing... Was the only way to be accurate with the measure...
3/ 80mm bottom of blue to top of green... Constant the entire length there...
4/ 75mm from centre of lower fairing bolt to the end of the green/start of the white stripe... Measured inline with the angle of the sub-frame.
5/ 225mm from the top corner of the blue stripe to the edge of the green stripe. Measured on the top edge of the fairing where the colours start and stop. It is measured straight across, not with the contour of the fairing.
6/ 115mm from the end of white/start of green stripe to the tip of the fairing.

1/ 18mm from where the tail light cutout just starts to straighten up, not at the bottom.
2/ 70mm measured from the underside of fairing (the panel is larger towards the mounting screw and then narrows out). The measurement is taken from the part where the panel just narrows... You will kind of know what I'm talking about when you see it.

Anyway, I hope this helps you out. I've tried to be as accurate as I can, but if you need any other measurements or clarifications, just shoot me another PM. Oh, and in regards to the tabs at the front of the panel, mine are both gone. My best guess would be to line up the position with the grommets that are in the tank and make up a little knob/tab/clip that can be glassed/plastic welded back onto the fairing.

Good luck, let me know how you get on...

Chris.
